The Home Stretch
Hey everybody! Josh Robert Thompson here. You may remember
me as Geoff the robot skeleton sidekick on “The Late Late Show with Craig
Ferguson.” Or perhaps you’ve heard one of my many voices on “Family Guy” or in your
favorite video game. Well now I’ve created my VERY OWN comedy/variety show…and I
want YOU to be a part of it!
So what is this show about? Well, it can best be described
as “Mr. Rogers Neighborhood” meets "The Muppet Show" meets “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Kinda like a warped Saturday morning kids show that is definitely NOT for kids. And this time I won’t be hidden behind a wall or a microphone—I’ll be front and center, playing a number of my original characters (and a few of your favorites, too) who live inside
a tiny house traveling through outer space and meet new friends along the way. There are lots of puppets, stop-motion animated creatures, practical
special effects, and an incredible supporting cast, including Hal Lublin
(“Thrilling Adventure Hour”), Dana DeLorenzo (“Ash vs Evil Dead”), Piotr Michael ("Impress Me"), and Rachel Butera ("Golan the Insatiable"). Did I
mention the entire thing is unscripted? Yes, that’s right. This show is
completely improvised!
This isn’t just a web series or some
funny videos I shot on my iPhone—it’s an honest to goodness production with beautifully
constructed sets and production design, incredible character make-up and effects,
and truly breathtaking locations. But there are still a few remaining things
that need to be finished...
And that’s where YOU come in.
I know some of you are wondering, "Josh,
what do you need our help for? You’re a big time TV star!”
Well, let me tell you. I’ve put just
about everything I have into this show. That’s how much I believe in what we’ve
created here. Most of what I made from “The Late Late Show” I put into this. It
is, for me, the very definition of a passion project. The upside is that I got
to make the exact kind of show that I wanted. The challenge, however, is that
studios, networks and production companies want to see a completed product
before green lighting a series like ours. And so rather than wait for another
financier to come along, I decided to turn to crowd funding. Why? Because,
after all, this show isn’t just for me, it was made for YOU. And the sooner we
finish it, the sooner you can SEE it. So help me be a part of television
history and let’s finish this thing TOGETHER!
What We Need & What You Get
Since the pilot is shot and edited, all that's left are:
- Titles
- Music
- Color
- Sound Design
- Visual Effects
Thanks to a talented cast and crew, and a lot of passion, we've been able to produce a fully professional pilot, but we're not done yet. Post-Production is critical and we need the funds to hire a professional composer, a professional sound team, and a team of visual fx artists so that the pilot can reach its full potential. Without them, all the work, time, and money spent thus far will go unnoticed.
To make our campaign beneficial for both parties, we've created a handful of really fun perks. Our perks range anywhere from $10 to $10,000, including credits on the pilot, a customized voicemail greeting, look books, t-shirts, buttons, and even a lunch date with Josh Robert Thompson himself! Yes, a lunch date with me. Yes, I just spoke in third-person.
Here's how our post-production budget breaks down:
- $2,000 for Titles
- $3,000 for Music
- $3,000 for Color
- $7,000 for Sound Design
- $10,000 for VFX
That brings us to our $25,000 post budget that we need to finish the pilot. And if we exceed our goals, then we'll be able to increase the production value even more! Our primary goal is to complete a broadcast ready pilot so networks can see the full vision of the show. And we're almost there!
The Impact
With your help, we'll get to complete a full TV pilot that's broadcast ready. We want this to look and feel like any other TV show on the air. We'll be able to present a professional pilot to networks in consideration for green lighting the series. More importantly, we'll be able to complete Episode 1 of a TV show that we can then share with all of YOU!
Risks & Challenges
This project has been a giant leap of faith. I've put in my own money and donated a year of my time. To take on an entire TV pilot with an independent approach is challenging to say the least, but I wouldn't have done it if I didn't believe in it. My experience as a comedian, voice actor, and performer on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson has taught me a lot about what it takes to see your vision realized. Now that I know what it takes, I'm taking matters into my own hands to produce something that I'd love to see on TV.
We have all the creatives lined up and we just need one final push. Any contribution you can make will go a long way. Trust me, anything counts!
