Help Launch Maui's Hawaiian Voyaging Canoe,  The Mo’okiha o Pi’ilani

A Living Classroom - where our youth, residents, and visitors will learn voyaging arts of Polynesian ancestors who sailed across oceans using only the stars. They came to Maui and sustained an entire culture with plants and animals brought aboard their canoe… Help us preserve this knowledge and pass it on…

  • We are the Hui o Wa'a Kaulua “Assembly of the Double-Hull Canoe,” a 501(c) 3 non-profit, 100% volunteer organization formed in 1975 to practice, perpetuate and educate the Maui community on Hawaiian canoe building, wayfinding and Hawaiian voyaging arts.

  • Our campaign will raise $10K to launch Mo'okiha o Pi'ilani, a 62-foot Hawaiian trans-oceanic voyaging canoe. Excess funds will buy educational materials for 24 workshops scheduled for 2014.

  • As a supporter you are gifting the world and specifically our youth with knowledge that sustained a culture for millennia. Ancient Hawaiians followed familiar stars across vast oceans. In the canoe was everything needed for the journey building a new community.

  • Your gift puts Mo’okiha o Pi’ilani in the water so we can teach children these timeless skills: Celestial Navigation; Wayfinding by using winds, currents, and clues from flora and fauna; Sailing skills; Ocean Safety Procedures; Sustainability.

We need funds to launch this voyaging canoe and preserve Hawaiian culture for generations to come…

Pass it On... Share it with your friends!

  • People who love Hawai’i: Click and make a donation.

  • Teachers: Excite your science class with the ocean and stars by following Mo’okiha’s launch.

  • Sailors: Learn what makes the Hawaiian voyaging canoe so unique. Travelers: Come to Maui and visit the canoe you helped launch!

Maui Residents, Parents, Kids, Maui Visitors...
We want to offer you some incredible incentives
  • Put this magnificent canoe in the water! The first $10K helps buy the last pieces of Marine emergency equipment.

  • Push us out beyond our goal! Everything over $10K goes to educational materials for our maiden voyage to 7 ports of call in the Hawaiian Islands.

  • Earn a Perk! Our incentives include Hawaiian canoe plant gardens, Star Compasses, Sailing aboard the Mo'olele, and Mo'okiha o Pi'ilani. Give generously and receive our Assembly of Double Hull Canoes T-shirts, a Limited Edition Logo Sticker, Loren Adams Posters, or Fine Art Prints.

The Impact! How you are making a difference

  • Our original $60,000 goal started early this summer with resurgence of our educational programs and goal to launch in December.

  • We hosted 24 educational programs, educated thousands of youth, built an onsite star compass, an educational Canoe Plant Garden, and have raised nearly $50,000.

  • THIS IS REAL! We are so close! Every $10 donation counts!

  • Our launch date is set for January 17th 2014! Less than two months away

  • Don’t delay --  we need you to accomplish this.
