THE WORK STARTS HERE
The Lucky Penny’s Work Room is a rehearsal studio for contemporary dance where artists receive support to pursue a rigorous, consistent creative practice. In this shared workplace, a small group of resident artists selected by The Lucky Penny receive year-round, subsidized studio time at a radically low monthly cost. The Work Room serves as their professional laboratory, a space devoted to dance-making, research, training, experimentation and play.
The Work Room is located at Wagon Works, a converted mill originally built in 1895. Located in East Point, the facility is just 15-minutes south of downtown Atlanta and is positioned directly on the MARTA line.
Our 1,700 square foot studio is flooded with natural light and teeming with possibility. We will open our doors July 1st to inaugural Work Room artists including: Blake Beckham, Anicka Austin, Melissa Word, Corian Ellisor, Sarah Freeman, Hez Stalcup, MaryGrace Phillips + Erik Thurmond, Okwae A. Miller, and Dance Truck.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
To protect the bones of the dancers and choreographers who will call the Work Room home, we are building a brand new, resilient sprung dance floor. We've already raised half the funds we need for this $15,000 investment! Now we need our community to pitch in so we can realize this long-time dream of opening a space, one that pushes forward The Lucky Penny's mission: advancing artistry and cultivating community through daring performance work.
