We think Morpheus said it best: “What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.”

What if I told you there is a better way? Seems like such an obvious solution, I wonder why we didn’t collectively think of it sooner: A magnetic hook! *smacks forehead*

Imagine a world where a ratchet strap’s hook stays EXACTLY where you put it when you toss the strap over AND it is still there when you get to the other side! Feed it through the ratchet and start tightening - IT’S STILL THERE! What a world we could be living in!

A Better Ratchet

Releasing traditional ratchets can be a real knuckle busting experience that showcases your capacity as a finger contortionist - or lack thereof.  Especially in cold weather, when you have to take off your gloves to slip what have apparently become very fat fingers into the tiny underbelly of a ratchet smaller than the palm of your hand. Once you are in that awkward space, you have only the wiggle in the tips of your fingers to tug on a metal clip that seems to be bound up - yet again. What are we, elves with slender fingers and legendary dexterity?!?

The proprietary Quick Release Ratchet with Easy Pull Lanyard™ on the Magnet Strap makes it a breeze to release the ratchet with just 1 or 2 fingers. Simply hold down the top button and pull on the Lanyard - you don't even have to open the ratchet - and it will provide even tension across the brake to ensure it will not bind.

Get a Grip on Non-Ferrous

We’re also going to have a stainless steel O-ring installed on every Magnet Strap to facilitate a good grip on non-ferrous trucks and trailers. A quick loop around an edge, put the hook through the ring, and you’ll hear that satiating SNAP as the hook grabs on to the ring. It will be held in place while you start tightening the ratchet, at which point the O-Ring settles in the crook of the hook to avoid uneven pressure on the magnet.

A handy feature, the steel O-ring gives the Magnet Strap unparalleled versatility:

Commercially Viable Product Program

Take a look around and you’ll see dozens of cargo securing solutions on the market today. Endless variations can be made with minor changes to hooks, straps, or ratchets in different colors, materials, lengths, widths, etc. If we pursued every iteration that struck our fancy, we’d have an impossible number of SKUs that would bog down our production startup.

We also understand retail merchants are biased against adding a single product from a brand-new vendor to their permanent in-store selection. Instead of taking on a small mountain of paperwork, they’ll offer one-off promotional opportunities, or stick us in a regional test where we are required to significantly outperform multinational incumbents – just to get an invitation to compete for shelf space.

To avoid the fate of flash-in-the-pan products that were good for a quick buck, we need to be ready for fickle retailers that don’t have our best interests in mind. We can’t go into production with just the 1” S-Hook style strap and ask them to give it a shot. Instead, we need to bring them a comprehensive, commercially viable product program that appeals to key constituents across multiple demographics.

Most importantly, we need to give our early retailers a choice beyond yes or no. We need to show them a range of retail-ready solutions for them to consider, giving them some control over how they will compete in the open market.

This is Me, Ron Dankert

I’m just a regular guy who has grown weary with everyday frustrations and a lack of what I see as easy solutions that will make life easier… better. Just because we've always done it this way, doesn't mean there isn't a better way to get it done.

I feel like I have a million ideas in my head that would surely make my life an easier place to be, so I decided to get started on the Magnet Strap in my "spare" time and established Dank Art Enterprises. With the help and support of my amazing wife, my wonderful children, and some great friends, I'm thrilled to be making one of my ideas come to life!

It will be a dream come true when I can go into a store where most of us currently get our ratchet straps without a second thought and see the Magnet Strap alongside the products produced by industry giants. We all deserve a choice between the ho hum and something better.

In Our Corner

Sandia National Laboratories

• Just last month, we were awarded a grant by Sandia National Laboratories, which is a HUGE win for us. To make sure our design is impeccable and that everything is being manufactured to perfection, we were facing a lot of resources being devoted to testing facilities.
• We’re told this sort of work is right up their alley and that we have a home state advantage. With scientists assigned to a project they are experienced with and are also likely to consider us as a pet project they're rooting for, we're sure to develop an impossibly robust and well-thought-out ratchet strap.

Patent Protection

• That’s right. We’re the only ones doing this.

Simple Concept Utilizing Existing Technologies

• We didn’t invent hooks, straps, ratchets, or magnets. Each of these components are being manufactured the world over and in some cases for hundreds of years. This isn’t a complex project fraught with potential technical difficulties.

The Centipede Guys

• 6 years and a couple months ago, Ed Adkins and Keith Fyhr started right here on IndieGoGo to launch Ed’s invention – the Centipede Sawhorse. Exactly 2 years later, their innovation was launched at thousands of stores nationwide, including at big box behemoths Home Depot and Lowes. Their product can now be found at around 5,000 locations in at least 24 countries across the globe.
• As a fellow resident of Truth or Consequences in New Mexico, I’ve had the privilege of meeting Ed, and he loves the Magnet Strap. He’s bought in at a hands-on level and has been lending the full weight of his design and sourcing expertise.
• Ed introduced me to Keith, who has also fallen in love with the concept. His product management skills and experience in all things digital are a huge weight off my shoulders.
