About the Film:
THE PERCEIVERS is a dystopian thriller about a young woman who is forced to leave everything she knows behind in order to save herself and uncover the truth about the mysterious disappearance of her sister.
The World:
The story takes place on the outskirts of a futuristic "utopian" city, Eden City. Society is ruled by a brutal totalitarian authority, the Perceivers, who monitor and control the population through optic nerve implants.
In this world, trust doesn't exist, because its Citizens betray each other just by seeing each other. And in a world where the Perceivers are always watching, and where rebellion means blinding and death, how does one escape?
Our Vision:
This film is just a small part of a much bigger story that lies within a terrifying future world. It will be a glimpse into the world of Eden City and the start of Agatha's turbulent journey. Our goal is to develop the idea into a feature film or TV series, using this short to garner attention and excitement for the project.
The Cast:
Where is the Money Going?
We have set a goal of raising $5000 for our film. We've received a generous grant from the Peter Stark Program at the University of Southern California, but it isn't enough to create the ambitious, complex film we are making. The money raised will be put towards locations, production design, costuming, visual effects, stunts and more.
The great news is that there is little risk involved here. Due to our grant, this film must be made so there is no chance of you donating money with nothing to show for it. That being said, we need your help to bring it to life and make it as good as possible.
How You Can Help:
There are many ways to contribute to our project! You can donate (any amount helps!), spread the word (share it on Facebook!), or give us in-kind donations (Chipotle gift cards always welcome!).
Why is Our Film Important?
We can see the future now.
Our theme drew inspiration from the emergence of Google glass and the potential consequences from the upcoming public release of the project. With Business Insider estimating that Google glass will sell 21.5 million units by 2018, there is no doubt that this invention will revolutionize the way people operate. And what is stopping Google from hacking into the individual glasses and accessing all of the information, including the camera? They already keep all of our emails and web history. If this access gets into the wrong hands, who knows what can happen?
Thanks for considering our project! We haven't been this excited since the last Harry Potter book came out and cannot wait to share our film with the world. Don't hesitate to email us with any questions, thoughts or notes of encouragement!
