Short Summary
Inspired by
Sister Adalbera Mukure,
a 75 year old Catholic sister who runs Moyo wa Huruma
Orphanage Center in Geita, Tanzania,
Africa, the Project Piggery will enable the Orphanage to become self-reliant. Funds earned from the piggery will support
secondary education for the children and other small scale activities.
What We Need & What You Get
Raise US $12,000 to build a solid
piggery, purchase and raise 20 piglets, and offer a future for the children by
teaching them animal husbandry and how to effectively run a small business. Look in the Gallery to see our list of needs.
You will get the satisfaction of knowing you are helping a child take their place in the world as a confident and productive citizen.
We will send you a picture hand drawn by one of the children for your contribution.
The Impact
The pigs will be sold at appropriate ages
and money will be banked. The interest earned will be used to buy more pigs
which will lead to extension of the project. Sale of pigs will also help
provide for secondary school fees for the children. Some of the pigs will
provide food for the orphanage. The
project will promote and encourage thrift and a sustainable life style among the
orphans and the neighboring community. The Piggery Project will offer the
children the confidence and encouragement to discover that they can do more for
themselves. They can start their own income generating activities which will
lead to self-employment.
Risks & Challenges
Geita is an area which is highly affected by HIV/AIDS, malaria and dysentery. The major reason for the spread of the pandemic is due to the presence of the gold mine and trans-road to Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Therefore, there is a growing number of orphans. As a means of assisting most of these marginalized children, the Diocese of Geita has built an orphanage Centre. Currently there are 100 orphans at the Centre. The Diocese has to take care of their full board. For each child at the Centre the Diocese has to use about US $1,000.00 per year.
In order to continue with this mission and to open the door on the possibility of further assistance to other orphans, the Diocese welcomes generous donations towards the full boarding, school fees and tuition for our beloved children.
- Your donation will help provide sustenance and an education to these needy children.
- The Moyo wa Huruma Piggery Project can become self-sustaining through a successful Indiegogo campaign.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:
- Ask folks to get the word out and make some noise about your campaign.
- Remind them to use the Indiegogo share tools!
And that's all there is to it.
