When Mark-Brian Sonna's "The Soul Gatherer -- A Mystical Play" premiered onstage in 2010, critics called it fascinating, disturbing and intense.
In an isolated estate on a stormy night, a girl's emergence from a years-long, persistent catatonic state coincides with the arrival of a mysterious stranger who seems to know everyone's deepest secrets. Is he an angel, a con artist, or a mass hallucination?
This is a complex and beguiling work that embraces the spirit of Independent Film and promises to be a unique experience for movie lovers seeking a sophisticated film with a powerful emotional impact.
Who We Are
The director, Benjamin L. Ward, will be making his feature film debut. He has previously directed short films, including the thriller “Chat”, which has been an official selection at three film festivals.
As an actor, writer, director and producer, Mark-Brian Sonna, in addition to writing “The Soul Gatherer” and originating the part of Mark, is an established presence in Dallas theater with MBS Productions (http://mbsproductions.net), which presents a full slate of plays each season.
We have an incredibly talented cast assembled. Reprising their roles from the original 2010 stage production are John Victor Allen, Richard Rollins and Mark-Brian Sonna, and from the 2011 reprisal, Griselle Cambioso. Joining them are Bethany Watson, Ashley Oringderff and Roger Schwermer.
