When an orphaned boy is encountered by visitors from a distant world, he must face the threat of being taken from his new found family, forever.
David Holliman, a 15 year old boy, was recently abducted by aliens. They drugged him, they experimented on him... and they left something behind. When the aliens return to reclaim whats theirs, they open up a path for David. A path away from a system he’s grown to hate. And so he pursues the creatures until he strikes a deal...
"Can my brother come?"
Steven Holliman, 5, is dragged into this deal unwillingly and selfishly by a boy who just wants an escape. It’s when Mr. and Mrs. Greene reveal their intentions of adoption that David rethinks his rash choice and must fight the alien’s immense power to stay with his family and kid brother.
Tackling themes of found family, brotherly love, and the supernatural, The Sound of Light is an emotional and exciting sci-fi film powered by a team of creative, passionate student filmmakers who are working hard to do it justice.
If you liked E.T., Signs, or Close Encounters of the Third Kind, then The Sound of Light is for you.
A statement from the director:
I’ve always been drawn to the science fiction genre, as both a writer/director and as an audience member myself. Ever since childhood, otherworldly tales danced in my mind. And today as a storyteller, I want to explore the relationship between the status quo of our world and the infinite possibilities of what lies beyond—beyond our atmosphere, beyond our perception and beyond our understanding of the universe.
My approach to sci-fi is inspired by a variety of different models. I love the unseen terror of Signs by M. Night Shyamalan, the hopefulness of Contact by Robert Zemeckis, the stark beauty of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001, and the wonder of Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. These types of films inspire how I view the genre and how I craft a sci-fi story. What all these films share is that most alien stories are rarely about the aliens themselves - it’s about how our humanity is revealed through an alien lens. I am excited and inspired to continue a tradition of sci-fi storytelling into a new generation, telling stories in a timeless fashion that connect with audiences in memorable and meaningful ways.
Although public interest in the UFO/UAP phenomenon is at an all-time high, The Sound of Light isn’t really about aliens or cryptic phenomena. This film, like so many sci-fi stories before it, is fundamentally a story about humanity - our feelings of isolation, of not belonging, and our need to be wanted and loved. Like my award-winning sci-fi film Sona (2017), The Sound of Light is, at its heart, a story about a person, alone in their world, struggling for what their heart needs most.
Set against the backdrop of the cosmos, my new film tells the fundamental story of human loneliness, the need for belonging, and the love of family. Audiences will see themselves in our protagonist, David. They’ll understand his struggles and connect with the impossible decisions he faces. And they will cheer him on as he fights for love and family.
To make this film, I need the financial support of friends, family and underwriters who can help me make this project a reality. Like several of my past films, I expect this to be a work that is worthy of the film festival circuit and recognition for the amazing cast and crew who will bring it to life. Thank you for any support you can offer—let’s get this film made together!
