Cassadaga, FL

Cassadaga: The town of Spirits

First Draft

Bodie Robbins

Concept

Cassadaga, “The Psychic Capital of The World” is known for many urban legends, spiritual activity, and being one of the most haunted places in Florida. This documentary will take you beyond the legends, the story will be told through the eyes of the citizens of Cassadaga and it will separate fact from fiction

Treatment

The film opens up with B roll shots of different locations in Cassadaga, this will be followed by dialogue explaining facts about the town. Since the town’s founding in 1894, It has been home to many spiritualists and mediums.  The séances, the spiritualism, and the very nature of Cassadaga is what makes its story an amazing one.

We will be traveling to Cassadaga, in this process, we will document what we know, and what we hope to see.

The most Frequent asked question is “Is Cassadaga as infamous as it sounds, or do we let the scary ghost stories get to us? Nonetheless, enough people have claimed to have had encounters with odd occurences to the point where Cassadaga’s reputation became questionable to most tourists who visited.

Upon arriving, we will conduct interior interviews with some of the mediums and representatives, asking about his or her personal life (How long have you lived here? What kind of stories do you hear about Cassadaga, etc.) We will also collect B roll footage of the surrounding area (streets, buildings around interviewee’s home or interview spot.)

Once we’ve gotten background info of the interviewees, we will ask about some facts about the town (history, urban legends, etc.), with knowledge learned as researchers and by interviews we’ve conducted this far, we are ready to venture deeper into Cassadaga’s history. We will get film coverage of the local landmarks in the area.

One of the most popular landmarks and urban legends of Cassadaga is “The Devil’s Chair”. There have been many stories regarding the Devils chair, but the most famous story regards to the devil

himself speaking to the subject sitting in the chair after midnight. Although many people have claimed this story to be true, local authorities say against it. They claim that they have seen no signs of demon’s or the devil’s presence. Voices, dark figures, ghost lights, and cold chills have contributed or are related to the Devil’s chair occurences.

Despite the reputation that Cassadaga has, this documentary will separate fact from fiction and ghost stories from reality.  The story of Cassadaga is one that you don’t hear about every town. Our objective is to show the world that Cassadaga is actually a peaceful and loving town. This documentary will help correct the understanding that people have of Cassadaga, and the true story will be revealed.
