THE SULLIVAN GIRL, by humanist playwright Gena Acosta, was the break-out hit of new work from the Actors Studio Playwrights & Directors Unit in 2015. What made it the break out hit beyond the writing, acting and direction was what it had to say about acceptance of an individual life choice that is beyond small-town normalcy. It has only become more important since then and is, therefore, deserving of a larger audience and we’re here to generate support for adapting it into a short film.
INTRODUCING THE WRITER
Gena Acosta, author of The Sullivan Girl has been a professional writer for 25 years, is a produced and published playwright and a current member the Actors Studio Playwright’s Development Unit... and is excited as hell to get this film done!
"Gena has a gift for translating intelligence into entertainment that uses humor to lure an audience into emotion that comes only through recognition. We listen to her characters, knowing that they carry a story that is hidden in what they argue for and how they argue for it. Her characters carry the story without knowing the story." - Peter Flood, director
