About The Thicket
The Thicket is an independent horror short from Mariah Johnson and Angela Pritchett. The Thicket follows 5 young people as they go on a camping trip, and discover much more than just campfires and nature, but an evil lurking in the forest. Something so dark that each of the friends will have to do their best to stay alive!
How is this film different than every other film about a camping trip gone horribly wrong? Well let me tell you! Mariah and Angela have a lot in store for this short film. They are creating a short that is not only scary, but will leave you thinking about what happens to these characters after you are done watching. They are also brainstorming some amazing makeup ideas for it (since both are special fx makeup artists as well.)
Directors Vision
Angela and Mariah are not new to the world of filming, between the two of them they have worked on over 100 films, a lot of them horror. The Thicket will be their third film directing together. Their last short film "The Gnome Before Christmas" played all over the US and Europe, and even won Mariah and Angela a few awards like "Best Director" at the Killride Film Festival in Myrtle Beach, SC. and "Best Kills" at the ConCarolinas Short Film Festival in Charlotte, NC. These two ladies are excited to make this short film, and then when it is done, send it all over the place for people to see, since why make a film if you do not want people to see it?
The Thicket was born when Directors, Mariah and Angela, got together and said, "We want to make something scary, something that will leave our audience thinking once the credits are rolling, and even after." They brainstormed the idea for :The Thicket" and Angela wrote the script.

The Impact of this short film:
Angela and Mariah are two female directors who work regularly in the genre of horror, as well as others. They love directing and story telling and want to get that out there to the masses. They also believe that the world of female directors is very small, and that all ladies should be out there creating and making great films (which all the ones we know do!) We want to continue to make great films, and get them out there to show the world that woman can direct, write, and make great movies in a world that is dominated by men! With your help we can make The Thicket a reality and make this film as amazing as the two of us are envisioning it.
That sounds great and ambitious... how are we going to pull this off?
These two ladies have a laid out plan already! We have our actors, we have our dates set, we even have our crew, who are made up of many professionals who know what they are doing, and can do it well!
They have a very modest budget laid out, and all the basics of what they need equals up to 1000 dollars. The more they make, the more they can do, but to get this film made, we can do it for 1000$.
This includes:
$350- Camera rental
$200- Food for cast and crew for the duration of shooting
$200- Special Fx makeup supplies
$100- Indiegogo perks
$150- Film festival Submissions
Luckily since we have been working in the film industry for years, we have a lot of what we need already. Our locations are local, and on private property, so no permits are needed and we have backups if we need them. Angela and Mariah have gone through the scenarios of what to do if they have to change certain items, and have made sure they have their eggs in a row!
This is the first time Angela and Mariah have tried going the crowdfunding method. All of our other films have been made completely on our own dime and we want to make something better than what we have done in the past! Every penny we make will go towards this film in some way.
