Jordan Saenz, a recent alumnus of the California Institute of the Arts, has taken big leaps to produce her choreographic work since her commencement in May 2012. Seeking to push the boundaries of dance and art making, she formed the group Saenz and the Noise. Comprised of some of Jordan's favorite choreographers and dearest friends, this collective has had quite an eventful year. Thus far, Jordan’s work has been shown at Pieter Performance Space, Live Arts L.A., and Highways Performance space. In November of 2012, her work was selected to be performed as part of REDCAT’S Fall Studio. Jordan allows her hip hop training to influence her contemporary movement in an attempt to offer audiences explosive, percussive movement and a sense of familiarity. In a playful back and forth between ambiguity and honesty, she aims to make the human experience easily accessible.

Evan White is a Saxophonist/electronic musician/producer from Denver, Colorado. Evan solely composed and performed the music for Saenz's previous dance piece and found great joy in the collaboration. He believes that with this project, collectively with more musicians and dancers, the musicians will be able to find greater inspiration through the movements of the dancers and vice versa.

Steven Kai van Betten is a Guitarist/Composer/Teacher, who is actively involved in the Los Angeles creative music community. Born and raised in the rural town of Blue Diamond, Nevada, Steven began studying guitar and writing music at an early age.  He now composes and performs with several different bands branching from intimate chamber folk music to rhythmically interlocking indie rock. In addition, he has had the opportunity to collaborate and compose music for several different emerging choreographers and made his debut as a film composer in Dave Wolter’s student academy award winning animation “Eyrie”.

July 11-12

ARC Performance Space in Pasadena

For this project, Jordan is interested in in creating a dialogue with musicians that will blur the line between the two mediums. Featuring original music by Evan White and Steven Van Betten, this new work explores the fragmentation of memory. Their aim is to capture the sentiment of clinging to fading memories, while longing to erase others. Together, the three of them will create a space where dance and music can overlap and rely on one another.

Dancers:

Lindsey Lollie, Jamie Pea, Princess Romero, Jordan Saenz, Kerrie Schroeder, Tiffany Stacey and Stephanie Zaletel

Rental Space and insurance waver $800

Equipment and costumes $300

Lighting $200

With your donations and support we will be able to pay the dancers, musicians, lighting designer and other aspects of production.  Anything helps!
