DEVELOPMENT:
We wanted to design a perfect utility knife that we can use everyday. The goal was simple: it has to be very easy to use and small. Our eureka moment happened when we realized that most cutting jobs do not need the blade to be locked in place since the cutting movement is perpendicular to the blade edge. After coming up with the slide button design that relies on friction and detents at the close and open positions, we realized two more things. First, we can stop the blade at any position between the close and fully open position. This lets us use the knife in special ways, like cutting the box with a controlled blade length and without cutting the content inside. Second, since we can squeeze the button on both sides, we can basically hold the blade for puncturing/stabbing motion just like it's locked in place.
We already paid the tooling and CNC fixtures for the frame and the slide button. Everything is ready for production.

Risks and challenges
We have successfully launched and fulfilled eight projects. We learned a lot from our past manufacturing and fulfillment processes. There are always risks and unexpected issues in launching a new product.
The factory already made a lot of samples for us. All the tooling is finished and production will begin once the campaign ends.
