My name is Dedra McDermott and I am a B.F.A Honours graduate with a degree in Choreography and Performance. Shortly after completing my studies I was very uncertain about which path I wanted to explore. To Be Announced is a passion project that was originally created to provide myself with a platform to create and showcase my work when no other opportunities seemed to be available. I am motivated to create this project at this point in my career development because I believe it is the next step in introducing myself to the dance community as more than a dancer. I am eager to present myself as a dance artist, emerging choreographer and artistic visionary interested in garnering a deeper understanding of her craft.
In addition to taking on the ambitious task of producing a full length performance, I am applying for my master’s degree in dance performance. The completion of this project is time sensitive because it is an essential portion of my graduate school application. With this new project underway, I am fortunate to experience the many angles of creating a show from production to performance. In addition to introducing myself as a multifaceted artist, I am so grateful to have 3 incredibly talented and diverse female artists sharing their work alongside me. This show will feature works by Jasmyn Fyffe, Alysa Pires, Kelly Shaw and myself.
Through this funding campaign I hope that all artists involved in this project will receive financial compensation. This is integral to my values as I feel it is important to acknowledge and support their dedication and hard work. As the producer behind this project, I am the sole financial resource other than this funding campaign and potential ticket sales. Your support will provide both financial relief and freedom to pay the artists involved in this project as well as supplemental aid for the cost of the venue rental, rehearsal space and performance venue insurance. I am excited and privileged to create opportunities for emerging and professional artists to share their work with the community.
