Short Summary
Hey, I'm Rishi Datla, a senior majoring in Cinema at VCU, where I've had the privilege of honing my skills as a writer and director of photography. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to take on these roles in a VCU film production, gaining valuable experience in the process. With the help of an amazing crew, I’ve put together, this will be my first try at directing, which I’m extremely passionate about. In "To Me, To You," we follow the journey of Dev, a young South Asian man caught between tradition and independence, grapples with his relationship with his overbearing mother and his long-distance girlfriend, Mai. When Mai unexpectedly arrives, their budding romance collides with his familial "obligations".
Impact
Through this narrative short film, we hope to show and introspective look into the unique dynamics of culturally diverse households and their varying perspectives on love. The film aslo aims explore the ideas of loss and its effect on our familial relationships as well as balancing the clash between tradition and modernity.
How you’re helping us!
We aim for $3,500 in funding for our film project. Here’s a breakdown of where the funds will be allocated:
Crew Expenses: A portion will be used to feed our crew members.
Equipment: We plan to allocate more for renting or purchasing filmmaking equipment such as cameras, lighting, and sound equipment.
Location Costs: Taking place in an Urban setting and being filmed in Richmond, it is important to be able to secure the necessary filming locations, we’ll dedicate a part of the budget for rentals and permits.
Actor Payments: We plan to seek out the best talent we can for the film, to do this, we aim to compensate our actors generously to ensure they receive fair compensation for their work.
Props and Decoration: Your donation will help to cover the costs of props, costumes, and set decoration to enhance the visual quality of the film.
Post Production: The remaining budget after production will be used for the final cut in order to pay for any copy written assets. Additionally, we will use the budget to fund film festival submissions.
If we don’t reach our entire goal of $3,500, the funds will be distributed in the same proportions to ensure we can still make the film as closely as we envision it, even if it means making adjustments to certain aspects. We’ll prioritize essential elements like crew and equipment to maintain the quality of the project. Your support is crucial to bringing our vision to life.
