Various films and many books have provided different perspectives on the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Now, with your support, and the help of our other partners—including Rudy Wurlitzer and Phil Tippett—I'm going to attempt the most comprehensive and unusual gunfight picture ever made.
We're blazing trail cinematically and historically, and invite you to come along—for the writing process, for the shoot, for the edit, and for the premiere in New York!
Once, it would have been impossible, on a low budget, to attempt a
Western involving a heat wave, an exploding whiskey barrel, a western
town ablaze, a torrential downpour, and the possible arrival of a time
machine (for who is going to interview the protagonists?). Thanks to the
digital genius of Tippett Studio, we can - and will - do these things.

Tombstone Rashomon will tell its story from multiple perspectives, in the manner of Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece. Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan Earp each had his story, and Doc Holliday his; Sheriff Johnny Behan was present at the shootout, having tried to prevent it; Ike Clanton and Billy "the Kid" Claiborne survived the gun battle and told their tale; Kate Fisher, Holliday's partner, was lodging in the adjacent building and said she witnessed the shootings.
They are our cast of characters—the town of Tombstone is a character as well.
Who will star in it?
I don't know yet! First we need our script, and our casting director. Crowdfunding encourages films which are project-driven, or director-driven, rather than made as a "star vehicle". It's a rare opportunity for a filmmaker to be able to cast their film right, with the best actors available, actors who are age-appropriate for their role. Wyatt Earp was 33 years old in 1881. Doc Holliday was 30, Kate Fisher 31. Ike Clanton was 34, Billy Clanton, 19. Tombstone was a new town, occupied by energetic and ambitious young folk who did not plan to grow old there, or anywhere...
We have the option of making the film with the SAG super-low-budget agreement, but ours is not a budget to attract famous movie stars! Expect a cast of young actors whom you don't know yet: Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb had never made a feature film before Sid & Nancy, and we are in that territory.
Either way, we'll pay the cast and crew! Making a film is hard work and though the budget is super-low, we shall go the professional route.
What are the perks?
The main perk is knowing that the film gets made, and being part of that! In tiers, perks go from a dollar for access to the production blog, for the duration of the production; all the way to premium perks like your face on a "Wanted" poster in the film, an executive producer credit, a replica (non-functional) of Wyatt Earp's Buntline special pistol, Doc Holliday's silver-headed cane, or an acting role opposite our stars. Also available as perks are 35mm trailers from my films and even the t-shirts off my back!

What if we don't meet our goal?
Because of the episodic nature of Tombstone Rashomon, if we only raise half our budget, we will make half the episodes. Indiegogo's funding platform supports this model, as well. It all works out quite beautifully.
Where will you shoot it?
I'm open to all possibilities -- Arizona, Colorado, Spain... Tombstone, AZ, will be a great resource, but it's a real town with an active tourist trade, and we need a location we can overrun, for days in a row. Silver Plume, CO, a living mining town with dirt streets, intrigues me. Durango, CO, has lavish period interiors and a steam train and railroad station, and an excellent film festival!
And when the film is done?
We'll have two premieres—the World Premiere, location TBD but suitably exotic, and our New York Premiere, both before the end of 2016. After we get out the disks, scripts, skull-headed cane, and other rewards, we will submit the film to festivals and seek international distribution. If you are a funder, we'll keep you posted about that process, as well.

But first we must make the film! So please support Tombstone Rashomon —five short films and an original feature unlike any other! Thank you.
