This is one of the industry leading air purifiers.

Let’s see what happens when we artificially generate 0.3㎛ dust particles that are smaller and lighter than PM2.5.

Even particulate dusts this small and light are not being pulled into the device properly.

Rather, it’s being blown along the air exhaust vent, upwards into the air that we inhale.

Then where is the strongest air current within an air purifier?

It’s the wind that comes out of the air exhaust.

Because the air current from the air exhaust vent is much stronger than the intake air current, the airborne particles are not sucked in through the air intake.

Rather, they move along the winds from the air exhaust vent and spread all over the room.

Air circulation never guarantees that particles get sucked into the device.

You may think that the dispersed dust particles will circulate the room, and then be re-absorbed into the air purifier.

False!

The returned particles spread in the room once again, by following the strong air currents of the air exhaust. This cycle repeats indefinitely.

Then where do these fine dust particles end up?

No one can know for sure.

However, one thing is certain. The filter inside the air purifier isn’t the final destination of these dust particles.

This is the biggest problem of air purifiers.

No matter how expensive your air purifier is or how frequent you use it, this is the reason why we cannot escape from asthma, chronic rhinitis and allergies.

This phenomenon would be applied to viruses in the same way.

In fact, studies have shown that viruses spread along the current through the exhaust of air purifiers, leading to an increase in infection rate.

Why are the dust particles not being drawn into the air purifier?
Why is it spreading along the fast currents of the air exhaust?
One reason is that the air current from the air exhaust is too strong.
But the most important reason is that the suction power of current air purifiers is too weak.

As soon as there is some distance from the air intake, the airborne particles are not attracted at all into the air purifier.

Even the lightest, smallest particulate matter is not properly attracted because most air purifiers’ suction power is insufficient to carry the contaminants.

The distance range an air purifier's fan can draw particles in air is limited to mere inches.

A simple principle posited by Dr, J.M. Dalla Valle (Univ. of Georgia Tech) proves this point. It shows that the ability of an intake fan to capture particles diminishes rapidly to 10 percent where the diameter of the arc equals the diameter of the vent itself.

Since most portable air cleaner intake vents are under one foot in diameter, this means air beyond this "capture zone" is not moving fast enough to carry particles toward the filter.

This is a physical phenomenon discovered by scientists, and one that no one could resolve so far.

Air velocity profile <Sources: ACGIH: INDUSTRILAL VENTILATION 23rd Edition 1998, 3-8> As a rough rule of thumb, the velocity at a distance equivalent to the diameter of the intake opening will be around 10% of that at the intake face.

Will the suction power increase if we increase the rotation speed of the motor?

This is a vacuum cleaner that has a motor of 100 times more rotation speed as compared to the air purifier motor.

A vacuum cleaner loses suction when raised slightly off a floor. The best, strongest vacuum cleaners cannot clean the dust that is outside of a certain distance range, equal to the diameter of the intake port.

Despite its extremely high noise level.

This means that no matter how fast the motor runs, meaningful particle removal is not occurring past a few inches in front of the filter.

Even worse, air purifiers have filters in front of a fan, leading to a further decrease in suction power.

Can these air purifiers that have such weak suction power really remove airborne particles in your room?

The key function of an air purifier is to draw and remove the airborne particles from the air.

In other words, the suction power is the most important factor.

Nevertheless, why aren’t there any air purifier manufacturers that talk about the suction power?

The insufficient suction power of air purifiers is not limited to a specific brand, rather it’s a characteristic of all air purifiers.

If you examine closely at the so-called “golden standards” for purchasing air purifiers, these characteristics are much more visible.

The EPA distinguishes Efficiency from Effectiveness.

Efficiency is the ability of the filter to remove  pollutants from the air that passes through it. Effectiveness is the ability of the device to clean the air in the occupied space.

A high effectiveness requires a robust ability to attract and move the harmful particles toward the filter.

Manufacturers mention the impressive HEPA figures in their marketing, leading consumers to falsely assume 99.97 percent of particles are REMOVED from their room.

If the particles never reach the filter, it is not effective beyond just cleaning whatever air passes through the filter. No matter how great of a technology is applied to its filters.

The EPA defines CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate)as “a measure of a portable air cleaner’s delivery of contaminant-free air, expressed in cubic feet per minute”. However, this does not indicate the removal of dust particles.

The basis of CADR is dilution ventilation. Dilution ventilation refers to the idea of adding clean air to contaminated air to decrease the concentration of airborne particles.

However, what is the point of supplying as much clean air as possible, if the actual particles are not removed in closed room?

The remaining dust, allergens, and other airborne particles will still cause problems to our respiratory systems.

To clean room air, it is fundamentally crucial to completely remove the contaminants.

Slow moving particles move towards air moving fastest!

Paradoxically higher CADR creates faster and stronger air current through the air exhaust. As a result, much of the airborne particles that we want to move into the filter bypasses the air intake and moves toward the air exhaust instead.

In addition, we see an insidious effect when we increase the fan speed, expecting faster, better cleaning, but exacerbating the filter by passing problem.

The worst part, the higher the CADR the faster the exhaust air resulting in higher filter bypass!

In addition to the criteria above, potential customers usually prioritize design, brand, and additional functions of the air purifier when making a purchase. However, will this really help purify the air?

Does this list really define what an air purifier truly needs? Why are these trivial, minor details a

part of the standards of a “good air purifier”?

And why isn’t there a company that talks about the actually important factor: the suction power?

Is it based on the premise that all air purifiers fail to properly suction the airborne particles?

It’s time to finally realize the truth behind these air purifiers!

Inspired by the nature of tornado sucking everything into its funnel, even heavy cars,
TROMBE technologically recreated tornado vortex on a small scale.

Swirler Vortex Technology

A tornado's vortex creates a powerful air pressure differential, creating an effect like a vacuum. By miniaturizing a natural phenomenon of a tornado with our proprietary unique technology, we were able to create an innovative air purification method called “Trombe Airborne Dust Cleaner”.

The core factor for air cleaning is the suction power!

It absorbs even the heaviest dust particles from a long distance and in 30~40 times larger area than a conventional air purifier.

Unlike conventional air purifiers that blow dust particles along the air exhaust, TROMBE directs the move of the dust particles into the air intake.

Check out TROMBE’s powerful suction power for yourself.

Swirler Vortex Technology (SVT)

Inspired by the nature of a tornado absorbing everything into its funnel, even heavy cars, Trombe recreated and miniaturized its vortex to room unit proportions.

The revolutionary Trombe Airborne Dust Cleaner creates a large, powerful vortex in front of the unit to capture much more particles, including the heaviest, capture-resistant particles, like pollen that trigger most allergic reactions.

With its one-of-a-kind suction power, this vortex not only absorbs dust particles, but also relatively heavier allergens like dust mites, mold, pollen, pet dander and fur.

By utilizing the tornado vortex, the airborne particles are captured and filtered from an area 30~40 times larger than the conventional air purifier, creating and maintaining clean indoor air.

A 3-stage filtration system consisting of a washable pre-filter, a hybrid activated carbon + catalyst filter, and an H13 true HEPA filter (99.97% efficiency) clean air while it directly captures dust, particles, and VOCs.

You can visually check the contamination of the filter at the rear of the device without disassembling.

* Easy filter replacement

To replace the filter first, twist the rear cover, dislocate, and take out the filter.s

Then, put in the deodorization filter, HEPA filter, and twist back the rear cover in order.
Now you are all set.

* Filter replacement alarm

When the filter replacement notification button turns red, then it's time to replace the filter.

* Pre-filter Rinsing (water)

The pre-filter, which is the most visualizable filter to check its contamination level, can be simply cleaned with water.

Its industry first AI operation turns the unit on and off automatically and controls the fan speed by monitoring the air quality by its built-in PM1.0 sensor.

This allows a longer filter lifespan as well as energy saving, which allows owners to access hassle free air quality monitoring and protection day and night.

3 Fan Speed manual modes are available.

One may think that powerful suction means a loud noise level. However, Trombe produces only 36dB(A) of noise level in its highest speed setting, which is lower than the noise level of a library.

Most conventional air purifiers’ noise levels are in between 55~70dB(A) in its highest speed setting at which they got CADR and the coverage certification.

Due to this annoying noise, most people run the air purifier at low or middle speed setting which generates much lower CADR and the coverage than certified.

Enjoy whisper quiet Trombe!

There are countless moments in our lives when we need clean air in daily activities like cooking, working, and sleeping, as well as during allergic reactions that irritate our respiratory system.
Trombe can be used anytime, anywhere clean air is needed.

When the internal winds in different velocities collide with each other it creates turbulence. The wind turbulence augments loud noises.

Trombe’s Aerodynamic Noise Control Technology (ANCT) eliminates internal wind turbulence.

Consequently, ANCT greatly reduce noise-level, and even generates white noise which helps you relax and fall asleep faster.

Unlike most industry-leading round or rectangular air purifier designs, its tree branch-shaped sleek design is in a lineage of minimalism and naturalism.

More importantly it is designed to prevent the diversion of dusts to the air exhaust.

On the contrary to the conventional air purifiers, the air intake force of Trombe is five times stronger than the air exhaust force to prevent the diversion of dusts to the air exhaust.

 Trombe TEAM

Technology Evolution Never Begin Without Question!

Conventional air purifiers create a low-pressure system inside the unit by using a fan to create turbulent air. What if we were to magnify and extend the turbulence outward, thereby drawing many times the quantity of air and particles into the intake vent? How would we do it?

The Trombe team has dedicated more than a decade to finding these answers. Often, great inventions come from simple observations of nature. Our solution began by asking the question, “How does an awful tornado suck everything, even heavy cars?”. The answer is the huge pressure differential generated by the vortex of the tornado, creating a vacuum-like effect. This, in turn, creates a high capture velocity, drawing in and capturing what, for our purposes, we can think of as giant "particles," some weighing multiple tons.

The Trombe Airborne Dust Cleaner was born of this concept, miniaturized to room unit proportions. Instead of a fan that just creates random turbulence inside the unit, what if we created a large, powerful vortex and what if we could project it out in front of the unit to extend the capture zone? This would enable the capture of many more particles, including more of the heavier, capture-resistant particles, like pollen, that trigger the most allergic reactions.

Would the power and placement of the low-pressure system we generate also prevent air diversion toward the exhaust vent?

Finally, could we do this in such a way that the high energy expenditure and noise problems dogging the industry would be avoided?

With these questions in mind, we set to work on a portable, table-top product that would meet all these objectives.

The result is the Trombe Airborne Dust Cleaner.
