About "trying"
Our show, "trying" is a story about two brothers, down on their luck, one of which is unhappy with that situation and wants to better his life. The issue is that neither are fully equipped to do so. Our pilot episode is above. It's a lot of fun!
We weren't kidding, right? Fun stuff! Yeah! Bring the heat!... Did I just say that? Anyway...
This project was shot and performed completely by film students at the Brooks Institute of Film in Ventura, CA. It was written with love by Joshua Jurgess and Adam Collins. (See photo)
"We know how to party."
So, introduction: My name is Joshua Jurgess. I'm the executive producer of "trying" and a 2nd year film student. I moved to Ventura, CA from rural Michigan a year ago to pursue a career in film and have found my passion in the process. I love to write and love to make people laugh.
The show, "trying" was created by Adam Collins. He pitched the idea to me and a week later we were writing and having a lot of fun in the process. The more we write, the crazier the storylines get.
We are planning to go into production for episode two in a couple months but currently lack the funds to do so. (That whole starving artist thing).
About Episode Two "Room for Seconds"
Adam, attempting to resurrect his acting career, decides to create his own production company to cast himself into rolls. His first project is a TV commercial for a car dealership called "Crazy Bob's Auto Asylum" owned by auto guru and psychopath, Robert "Crazy Bob" Wolarski. (See photo)
"If you can pin me, you get free rust proofing!"
Bob is so pleased with the commercial, he invites Adam, Josh and two dates (who also have problems of their own) to dinner at his house. What follows is a tale of madness too horrific and shocking to reveal. (BOOM! Suspense!)
What We Need
Our goal is $20,000 to produce five more episodes for a season. These funds will go to the following...
-
Art Department: Build dem sets, people!
-
Food for Cast and Crew: We want to be able to keep everyone happy and well fed.
-
Camera Team: We'll need to rent camera equipment to make sure everything looks as good as it possibly can.
-
Director and Key Crew Positions: You don't ask a baker for free pie.
-
Post Production: The people that bring it all together and make it look shiny!
They're skilled and single, ladies. (Photo by Matthew Turner)

- Real-world production experience for film students.
- Help student writers develop and create fun story arcs that audiences would find appealing.
- To be more on the cheesy side, you'd really help fulfilling the dreams of many people, who want to make something they can be proud of.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can’t contribute, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help. We would be absolutely giddy if you:
