Did you know nearly half of newborns develop a flat spot on their head within two months? Turn Your Baby can help prevent this. Please help us put this problem to sleep by supporting our crowdfunding campaign.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends parents rotate their newborn's head each time the baby sleeps to avoid flat head syndrome. But this instruction is often overshadowed by the more well-known "Back to Sleep" campaign (which makes flat spots more likely). More importantly, for parents to properly implement this instruction, they must also remember in what head position the baby slept last time. That's where Turn Your Baby comes in!

With three light-up buttons, one for each sleeping head position (back-left, back-center, back-right), parents and caregivers can easily track which position the baby slept in last time in order to choose a different head position the next time. Because let's face it, parents with newborns are always tired, and tired people easily forget. So let the Turn Your Baby do the remembering for you!

Turn Your Baby was started by Irene Collado when her son Lucas was treated for flat spots in 2013. She was very upset by the thought of using a helmet to correct Lucas's flat spots. So when she later learned that flat spots can be avoided by regularly turning a newborn's head each time the baby sleeps, the proverbial light bulb lit up in her head! - remind parents to "Turn Your Baby!"

Irene immediately started thinking "how can I put a reminder to 'turn your baby' right where it counts most - on or next to the crib/carrier/stroller so you can't miss it! So Turn Your Baby comes with multiple attachment mechanisms - a screw clamp that can attach to crib railings, Velcro straps running in either direction to attach to carrier/stroller handles, and a kickstand to prop it up on a changing table, dresser or nightstand.

Dr. Chad Perlyn, the pediatric plastic surgeon who treated Lucas, and a Fellow of the AAP, joined Turn Your Baby as Medical Director when he saw the solution Irene came up with. He has long believed that more focus should be placed on prevention instead of treatment, and that’s why he's excited about Turn Your Baby.

In addition to the reminder device, Turn Your Baby aims to launch a national advocacy campaign to raise awareness of this simple but often overlooked prevention technique. So the more money we raise, the bigger and more effective the campaign will be.  Please consider sponsoring the campaign at one of our higher contribution levels, or you can contribute without choosing a perk if you just want to support the campaign.

We are seeking to raise at least $20,000 through pre-sales of our reminder device (and other branded merchandise) to prove demand for the product and launch the Turn Your Baby brand. You can also choose a perk but have us donate it on your behalf (we will verify your choice by email after the campaign).

We have completed preliminary mechanical and electrical design work for the device, so our next steps are to tweak the designs to streamline assembly and identify suppliers.

The device is designed to run on three AAA batteries, which should last a few months thanks to an electrical design focused on low power consumption. Also keep in mind that the risk of developing flat spots typically occurs during a newborn's first 6 to 8 months. So we anticipate the most you might need to change the batteries is once or twice. There is also an On/Off switch and memory which will cause the device to default to the last selected position after it has been turned off and then on again. This will help you extend battery life. We also plan to offer only one color (blue) initially, but we will try our best to offer a second color (pink) after we receive final price quotes from our supplier.

The Turn Your Baby device is patent pending (App. No. 14/500,157)
