Short Summary
Hi! My name is Melissa and I'm a digital filmmaking student at Stephens College. TWERP is my Senior Thesis Film - a short film based off a true story about a friends life.
TWERP tells the story of 12-year-old Rebecca, an animal loving farm-girl, who goes looking for her missing horse. As the search unfolds, unexpected encounters help rekindle her relationship with her older sister. It's a story about adventures and curiosity, and how a broken family can one day heal.
Production is scheduled to take place in August 2016 in the greater Columbia, MO area. Completion of the film is scheduled for early December 2016 and a public showcase (you're all invited) will be held in March 2017 on the Stephens College campus.
With your contribution we will be able to better provide the necessities for making this film and sharing this beautiful story.
What We Need & What You Get
These days it seems like anyone can make a movie. You got a camera on that phone? You can make a movie. You got a DSLR at home? You can make a movie. Sure, you can hit record on just about any device and call it a film. But the truth is, successful films are not made over night. Good movies take time and planning. A great film requires months and months of preparation, and a devoted cast and crew.
Filmmakers have to consider the logistics like scheduling, location scouting, props, costumes and makeup. There are stunt doubles, animal trainers, set decorators and loads of paperwork to tend to. It takes a lot of time and a lot people to do all of this work - and it's the filmmakers job to make sure all of those people are fed, happy, and healthy everyday on set. The truth is, filmmaking is hard and expensive, and we can't do it without your help!
We are asking for a total of $3500 to fund the production of TWERP. The money you donate today will help:
- Feed 15 crew members, 5 actors, and 12 extras on a 6 day film shoot.
- Get the entire cast and crew from point A to point B, and back to point A. Oh wait! We forgot something at point B! (You get the idea)
- Acquire props for each scene, from the biggest piece of furniture to the tiniest trinket.
- Secure a horse and horse trainer.
- Provide housing for cast and crew that must travel to be here.
- Increase our chances of being accepted into film festivals. The average submission fee is $27 - $40.
- Spike morale. The closer we get to our goal, the closer we come to achieving our dreams!
But that's not all!!! Your contribution means so much to us that we've planned some really cool and unique perks for you, like an original TWERP T-shirt, screen-printed by our very own art department. Not to mention an original piece of art, drawn by the art director and inspiration for the film, Becca Sullinger! We've also got some other cool stuff in store for you like the original TWERP movie poster, signed by the entire cast and crew, and your very own copy of the script, signed by yours truly! Just check out our donation/perks options and learn about all the other cool stuff we have to offer! The Impact
I believe that the most beautiful art stems from creative individuals working together to achieve a singular vision. Each and every person who has worked on this story has left their imprint. Rebecca's tale is based on true events, but her character is a little piece of all of us. Today we ask that you, too, become a part of Rebecca's story as one of the many collaborators who help bring it to life!
