My name is Ruby Lee Thigpen Whitehurst and I live in eastern North Carolina. My film Two Nations began as a three page short story for an English class assignment, when I attended college. My classmates and professor loved the story so they suggested that I turn it into a novel. Thereafter, I turned the story into my book titled, Loves' Soft Voice; and therefore, that is the book that inspired Two Nations.

Two Nations is a unique, historical, story based on family legend. It is the first film to show the friendship and courtship between slaves and Native Americans. These types of relationships happened often especially in the southeast United States of America. Yet society and history does not talk about such relationships.

SYNOPSIS BEGINS:

Inside a beautiful log cabin, surrounded by fragrant, hardwood trees, foliage, and fresh air Bright Star Whitehorse shares with graduate student, Alan Johnson; The amazing legacy of Waterfall Lake. He learns of her ancestors, Yellow Wolf; the son of a great First Nation Leader and Zerondi, the daughter of an African King and Queen.

Bright Star takes him on a journey that tells of a time - when snatched from the Motherland as a victim of the Triangular Slave Trade - Princess Zerondi arrives on the southern shores of America. As soon as the ship docks, the captain does not waste any time sending her straight to the auction block where an Englishman named Lord Welch purchases her.

Meanwhile, deep within the forest, a young warrior named Yellow Wolf is on his way to his first vision quest.  He travels for three days and when the sun is midway the sky, he notices a flock of vultures circling over a vast field of wildflowers. The alert young man whispers, “Perhaps Brother Bobcat has killed more than he can eat!” Yet, instinct tells him that something extraordinary lay ahead. Therefore, he immediately heads out to investigate. His senses tell him that someone needs his help and his senses are correct. He moves ahead with caution and comes upon a young woman. Although she is near death, and he is aware of her slave status, he stays with her. The young warrior nurses her back to health. Once she is strong enough to travel, he takes her back to his village. Will they overcome language barriers and racism?

SYNOPSIS ENDS:

We are honored that Two Nations will promote cultural awareness by bringing to life the extraordinary friendship BETWEEN TWO DISTINCT RACES of people, While showing the hardships which they faced and how they overcame those obstacles.

Furthermore, the production of Two Nations will create much needed jobs in our communities and teach  skills such as team work, prioritizing, meeting deadlines, following instructions, attention to detail, quality control, cultural awareness, and provide experience on a film set which includes the construction of props, costumes, lights, cameras, sound, running errands, clerical assistance etc.

OUR PROJECTED BUDGET IS one million dollars, which will cover cast, crew, equipment, and supplies.

BESIDES OUR INDIEGOGO FUNDRAISER, WE ARE APPLYING FOR GRANTS. WE ALSO PLAN TO HOLD OTHER FUNDRAISERS BY SELLING OUR TWO NATIONS T-SHIRTS, CAPS, TOTE BAGS, etc.

MOREOVER, WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF CREATING OUR TWO NATIONS SOUNDTRACK. WE ALSO PLAN TO SELL OUR CD TO RAISE FUNDS FOR TWO NATIONS. OUR WRITER/PRODUCER WROTE ALL THE LYRICS. THEN SHE CONTACTED NUMEROUS RECORDING ARTISTS AND ASKED THEM TO ADD VOCALS AND MUSIC TO THE LYRICS AND THE ARTISTS AGREED. EACH SONG FROM THE CD IS GOING TO BE PLAYED DURING THE MOVIE.

OUR PRODUCERS, DIRECTORS, CAST, CREW, AND RECORDING ARE DEDICATED, DEPENDABLE, AND PROFESSIONAL INDIVIDUALS; WE WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM.  AND AS A TEAM, OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE AN EPIC FILM.

WE ARE PREPARED FOR THE CHALLENGES AND OBSTACLES THAT COME ALONG WITH FILM MAKING; HOWEVER, WE WILL NOT GIVE UP. THIS FILM HAS BEEN IN THE MAKING OVER TWENTY YEARS. WE BELIEVE IF ONE DOOR CLOSES WE WILL FIND ANOTHER ONE THAT IS OPEN, BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER SOLUTION TO ANY SITUATION. OUR SOLE FOCUS IS TURNING TWO NATIONS INTO A FILM; THEREFORE, WE DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER FILM PROJECTS IN THE WORKS AT THIS TIME. WITHOUT DOUBT, WE BELIEVE OUR FILM IS GOING TO BE A BIG SUCCESS. WE ARE WORKING HARD, AS A TEAM, TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

If we do not reach our campaign goal of $1000,000.00, Indiego will let us keep the funds that we raise and those funds will go toward our film Two Nations.

We understand that some people will not be able to donate but we ask that you please help us get the word out about our campaign by using the Indiegogo share tools.
