THIS VIDEO SAMPLE IS OUR RESUME REEL…. NOT A TRAILER.
Uncle Rosey’s is the story of Adrian, a South Texas cantina owner, who fights to save his barrio against encroaching gangs, drugs and prostitution. This original screenplay does not glorify gangs and “homie” life but focuses on a myriad of characters that frequent Uncle Rosey’s Cantina, a legendary local watering hole. (Think “Cheers” meets “Barbershop 2” set in a barrio.) These characters fight back with their wits rather than with fists in ways that are sometimes humorous and always with their dignity. The story opens with a shooting in the neighborhood, too close for Adrian’s comfort. Later Adrian is abhorred to learn that some of the bar regulars and even his own employees have become involved in the encroaching drugs and prostitution. His strained relations with his brother and the growing sexual tension with his waitress and with his ex-wife provide additional drama, romance and humor. With the memory of his ambiguously gendered “Uncle Rosey” as a moral compass, Adrian and his comic relief Tío Mingo take a stand that leaves you cheering in the end. All this takes place within a world of Tex-Mex Conjunto musical culture rarely recreated on the screen.
