University
Prep Schools is a highly successful charter school system that has served urban youth of Detroit since 2000.
Our system consists of two K-12 charter school districts—University
Preparatory Academy (UPA) and University Prep Science & Math (UPSM), which are
collectively known as “U Prep Schools.” Together our districts not only educate
approximately 3,200 students in seven schools—three elementary schools, two
middle schools and two high schools, but we give our students the courage to
pursue a future full of possibilities. Our organization’s purpose is to prepare
students for success in life.
Through
the generosity of an anonymous donor, we were able to partner with the Detroit Yacht Club in order to reserve 25 seats in
their prestigious Junior Sailing Program for the next 5 years –beginning with
this summer. This partnership is a point of
pride for the Detroit Yacht Club because it displays the members' commitment to the community.
For Detroit, this a great example of a successful public/private
partnership. And this program coincides with the access, opportunity and experience we aim to give our
students at U Prep Schools.
As the final planning stages of the U Prep/DYC
Summer Sailing Program are being completed and as we anticipate the arrival of
U Prep Students on the DYC campus in the upcoming weeks, we are asking
community-conscious companies, good Detroiters, families, friends and supporters to contribute to the future success
of the program

By
off-setting the cost of these items, you will be saving our school system and
ultimately our families and students from having to spend limited financial
resources. This is also a very special opportunity for you to be recognized
as a contributor in a highly-visible, particularly unique collaboration of a
private club and a public school in Detroit. In short, your in-kind commitment
leaves a lasting impact of support from University Prep Schools, the members of
the Detroit Yacht Club, and the community of Detroit, while providing much
needed resources to a program that will benefit the lives of children who would
otherwise not have the opportunity.
