I am graduating this summer with a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, a world-ranking University for this major. I have a strong interest in Biorenewables and the economy arising from them. In my final semester, I came across an assignment where I had to research and gather information together about cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). They are in fact, a potential alternative to produce biofuels. The way they produce biofuels is by using the CO2 in the air and photosynthesis, a perfect candidate for the fight against CO2 emissions!
During this assignment, the final task was to write an essay, I came across papers published by David-Lea-Smith and decided to message him on LinkedIn. At first, I didn't expect him to answer, but in fact, I received an immediate response from him. After talking to him, he offered me to work for his startup during this summer at the UEA (University of East Anglia) on cyanobacteria and get involved in the entrepreneurship part of this adventure.
My project will consist of research on a faster method of genetic engineering in cyanobacteria. Engineering these bacteria is a key feature required in order to mass produce fuel from these species, which is the biggest challenge to be able to use this marine biomass on the market and make it join the fight against CO2 emissions along with reusing the CO2 already out there. This project is valuable for the scientific and world communities will lead to the publication of a paper, my first one.
The funds I require for this project are 1500£ which will be spread over the accommodation (900£ for 2 months), the travel expenses from Liverpool to Norwich and within Norwich (200£) and living costs (400£).
Unfortunately, as it is a startup, funds are not available for interns... This is why I am asking the world community to fund this project as it means a lot to me and I would like to contribute to the future of the green energy production and the reduction of the CO2 emission, join this project and you will also contribute to these goals! Even if you can't participate, please share the message with your friends. Thank you all!
