WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
STORY:
Jun (Jun Matsuo) spends all his time at the office. His life is on the edge. He's trying to put his marriage back together which was shattered years ago. Kei (Jun Matsuo) is a struggling artist with a questionable past. His life is at a turning point. He's trying to get out of a relationship that has kept him where he is. Married to Jun but in love with Kei, their lives are connected by Yuki (Qyoko Kudo). In an act of complete desperation, she comes up with a plan that will alter the lives of each of them.
SIGNIFICANCE:
Unravel is a Japanese feature film project first conceived in 2008. In essence it's a suspense film, but more importantly it's a social commentary on modern day Japan which confronts issues such as duty, exploitation, sacrifice and false love. These important issues are most often swept under the tatami in Japan and the need to shed light on them is what inspired me to make the picture. I thought, and still think that these are issues that people around the world need to be aware of, especially the Japanese themselves. A lot of the substance that appears in the film came first-hand from the students I've been teaching English to for over eight years.
THE GAME PLAN
When Unravel is completed we're going to hold the red-carpet premiere at a rented-out theater in central Tokyo. The entire cast and crew will be invited as well as however many fans we can manage to fit in the theater. Following the premiere, we'll take care of any necessary re-cuts and get it ready for festival distribution. The film will then be sent through the film festival circuit, focusing mainly on festivals in North America and Europe. Finally, we hope to take it a step further and secure a distribution deal in Japan which will allow it to air on Japanese TV.

WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU'LL GET
Tokyo is not an easy place to shoot a film but it's undoubtedly one of the most exciting. Shooting the film guerilla-style on a shoestring budget presented endless challenges, but it turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone involved. After four years in the making, Unravel is nearly finished and the light can finally be seen at the end of the tunnel.

* sound mixing (in progress)

* creating DVDs (not yet)
* festival submission (not yet)
What we need now are the funds necessary to complete the final stages of the editing so we can get it out to internationally recognized festivals and the masses. The money will go towards the following:
- Completing the film (80%) - The sound needs to be mixed and mastered so it can play at different theaters equipped with special sound systems. The film also needs to be color graded and calibrated to play on the big screen.
- Creating the DVDs (5%) - DVDs and cases need to be designed, formatted and created for festival distribution.
- Festival submission (15%) - Film festivals most often require a non-refundable submission fee.

WHO WE ARE & HOW WE'LL ALL BENEFIT
Film is well known for being a collaborative art and Unravel couldn't have been made without the effort of everyone involved in its team. The team of cast and crew was assembled in Japan by writer/director Tom Flint who has been living in Tokyo for almost ten years. Tom graduated with a B.A. in film and media arts from Temple University where he made a number of short and experimental films. He also studied film in New York City, Florence, Italy and Los Angeles with New York University and Emerson College's film programs. His most recent film, "On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning" was adapted from a short story written by Haruki Murakami.

One of the great things about film being a collaborative art is that everyone involved in a project can benefit from it. If Unravel has the chance to reach festivals, the entire cast and crew's talents will be on display giving everyone a chance to push their careers forward.
