Dear supporters of "URP!",
From the suburbs of Philly to the pounding beat of New York City, I am feeling so lucky to be in the Big Apple studying Film and Television at New York University. Everyday, I am thankful to my family, friends, and to the world for blessing me with the ability to be living out my dreams. Now I would like to give back to the the world by telling a story about the road to your dreams not always being a smooth and pleasant one, but if you stick with it, you might just find unexpected surprises along the journey.
One of the most valuable lessons learned from film school is that making a film is not a feat that one can undertake by oneself. That is why my crew and I are asking for your help in raising funding for a subtle but very powerful story about finding love in oneself and singing it (or belching it) to the world!
Your donation will allow this film to have a farther reaching impact than a college classroom, as we are hoping it will bring warmth to the hearts of families around the world. The help you give will provide you not just a great film, but will make you part of a family that believes in the power of self love and friendship.
I could not have asked for more love and support from family and friends when I was growing up, so please help my crew and I tell this story about the trials one faces coming of age and the necessity of love and support along the way. Thank you so much for your generosity and I will see you at the movies!
Sincerely,
Chris Cush
The crew of URP! is lucky to have $4000 for our budget saved, which will go to paying a location fee for filming at a high school, food and craft services for cast and crew, and basic costuming and set decoration. This money is saved and ready to go when filming comes around.
However we would like to make sure this film does not fizzle out after production. We would like to give this film a proper post production period that it deserves.
This is why my team and I are asking for $2,000 to help bring this vision to life. With the extra money we will be able to help our team after the film has been shot and the footage has been collected. With the added money, we can budget for a composer to help us write a beautiful score and hire real musicians to help bring the sound to its full potential. We will also be able to hire a colorist, who will help color the film to make it pop off the screen.
Finally, the added money will help cover the cost of festival submissions and legal distribution fees so that this film can have an even broader audience and it can impact more lives. The rest of the money will go into our contingency, so if anything should end up being more expensive than we thought, we will be prepared with the money to come up with a backup solution.
Here is a pie chart of all our expenses. We have our production costs covered, and just need help with the Post Production, Legal and Distribution Costs, and the Contingency to make sure we are covered in case we need extra money.
Of course, there will also be perks for donating to this film. We have gotten together as a team to make sure that your generosity is rewarded with perks ranging from personal thank yous from the cast and crew to actually having a role in this film! These perks are fun and will help you get involved in the process of making this movie!
Our team knows $2,000 is a lot to ask for, but we are very grateful for your support and are ready to work with however much you are generously willing to offer.
We all have had our bullies and our demons that we fought, so I wrote this script as a reminder that we need help to face these insecurities and to take on the challenges of the world with others. While growing up, I often felt like I did not fit in or was excluded from fun activities that my peers were partaking in. My team and I would like this film to be a reminder that we must not just accept others differences, but also learn to love them and appreciate them.
Thinking back on my past works, I am reminded of making my high school film "Connect" and some of the challenges I faced while making the film. I remember one line strongly from the wise Connext player who helped the underdog find the courage to face his bullies and to rekindle the love in the board game he played. The line was simply ,"this game will give you wings, man." I often find that being around the things and people I love makes my heart soar and like I can fly. The love and compassion that Katelyn shows Alex is a very similar situation, as it helps Alex to find his wings and to belch in the face of adversity, so to speak.
The crew of "URP!" would like this film to be a reminder that, putting others down puts oneself down, but also that lifting others up will in turn raise you up. I believe this to be a very universal message, as I think what we are all searching for is what gives us wings.
When taking on a project of this size, It is important to note Murphy's Law, which states that whatever can happen will happen. Fortunately, we have a very strong team of filmmakers behind this production who are all ready to take on any challenges that we might face.
One of the biggest challenges we faced so far is finding a school for us to film "URP! in. Luckily, through working with the New Jersey Film Commission, we have found a high school which is suitable to our needs and within traveling distance for our cast and crew.
However, we know that this location could drop at any time for any reason, which is why my producer and I contacted the New York Commission and have three other possible schools within Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn that are backups in case the first school does not work out.
I will also be working with my Assistant Directors to form a schedule when filming at the school so we get all the footage we need in the two days we have to film. This will ensure that we are on point and ready to get the best quality shots for this film with the best possible performances.
We know that not everyone can contribute money, but we would still love you to be a part of this film and production family. Please let your friends and family know about this production and see if they would like to support. We will be using the hashtag "#EXCUSEME" to show support for this film, so please feel free to post about the production and hashtag it at the end! Also remember to use the IndieGoGo share tools!
