A story that is by turns personal, wistful, funny, painful and transcendent - the film will explore the legacy of Valerie's life: from her beginnings as a Vegas showgirl, to winning the Cannes film festival "best actress" award, to her inspiring battle with Parkinson's and the resulting physical disabilities. Valerie remains one of the truly immortal stars of our time. She gave phenomenal performances opposite some of the decade's most prominent leading men, including Dustin Hoffman, Jeff Bridges, Jack Nicholson, Gene Hackman and Robert Redford, as well as having worked with acclaimed directors like George Roy Hill, Bob Fosse, Sydney Pollack and Richard Donner. She was ravishingly beautiful and her natural charisma and talent ultimately made her a superstar.

2018 will be a milestone year for Valerie. She will celebrate her 75th birthday in September and it will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of the release of SUPERMAN. We would love to have the film completed to correspond with both of these momentous events. ![]()

Valerie's story needs to be shared. It is a compelling and inspiring example of what it means to be human and the struggles we all face, regardless of status, wealth or fame. What separates her story from other documentaries is that we have tons of intimate footage, interviews with her celebrity friends and all of the meticulously kept, personal recordings, videos and mementos that Valerie kept over the years. We have hours of footage of Valerie both before her current battle with Parkinson's and essential tremors, as well as after. We pull the curtain back with raw, behind-the-scenes footage from the hospital as Valerie faces multiple surgeries and rehabilitation. We're still filming right now as Valerie deals with her daily life, post-surgery and we will continue to film Valerie's inspiring life up until the point that we dive into post-production.![]()
As well as Valerie herself, we've captured many wonderful interviews with Valerie's friends, both actors or other. Some of the amazing people who you'll see in the documentary that we've already interviewed are;![]()

While already having secured some amazing interviews, there are more we need to get. Part of our budget (discussed below) is to finish our target interviews with other major, Hollywood talent - many of whom we have interviews lined up with already. We'll get them, but only with your generous help.![]()
Again, we hope to have a finished film by the summer of 2018, in order to correspond with Valerie's 75th birthday and 40th anniversary of the release of SUPERMAN - both fitting milestones to pay tribute to this amazing woman. Upon completion, we will submit VALERIE to film festivals and then release the film to the world! Our goal is to create a riveting, 90-minute documentary intended to inspire others, no matter their challenges; to live their life fully and to go after their goals, no matter what their situation. We want to paint a portrait for her fans and highlight Valerie's venerable life.

I met Valerie nearly a dozen years ago, while living beside each other in Los Angeles. We met walking our dogs and struck up a conversation. Right away I was taken by her radiance, electrifying spirit and passion for life. The stories she would tell about the amazing and interesting life she's lead always inspired me. We remained friends and I started to meet the people in her world. A couple of years ago, I started to notice Valerie's health was fading. It was then that I decided to start documenting her, which she whole-heartedly embraced. Little did I realize that what started as a passion project for the two of us, would lead me on a journey and down the path to get where I am today, sharing with you the ability to help me finish bringing a final piece of her legacy to life. Valerie's story is an inspired one, a cautionary tale and a triumph all at the same time. It's up to us to see it through and leave a lasting mark that she can be proud of and fans can discover for years to come.

We've assembled an amazing, creative team to put this project together. Led by director Stacey Souther, the film is being produced by his long time friend and collaborator, Aaron Harvey and his Michael Bruce Pictures production banner. We have several incredible companies lined up to offer post-production duties as well, from sound to color to finalizing the picture - every facet of the production is covered. With multiple, award-winning feature films to our credit, we're very confident we're going to deliver an entertaining and enlightening film about Valerie and her amazing, enigmatic journey. All we need now is your support to get the film over the line, and bring Valerie's wonderful story to life!

While we've already accumulated a lot of footage and are beginning to put the pieces together, we still have a LONG way to go to get the documentary fully finished. To complete Valerie's story, we'll need more interviews with other celebrity friends. We'll need to continue to film Valerie in her current health battles and everything that entails. We have music and clearances to do (film clips, etc.) and legal fees to pay to do this. On top of that, we have to have the editing and post-production work (composer, color, audio mix and distribution) completed as well. This is where YOU, fans of Valerie and our documentary can help.
The percentage breakdown: Continuing Photography (Interviews, Filming, Travel): 37%, Production Expenses (Gear, Expendables, etc): 25%, Indiegogo’s Share and Incentives: 18%, Computers/Servers: 5%, Legal Fees / Clearances: 15%.
Some of the proceeds (especially above our $50,000 goal), will go DIRECTLY to Valerie to help offset the cost of her home care. She needs a substantial amount of money each month for her current care situation, and we can help defray some of this burden for her by helping cover the cost. She needs your help, and this is a great way to contribute directly to Valerie's quality of life.
Thank you so much for your generous donations towards this project! It is impossible to put into words how much your support means to us - but THANK YOU for helping us make a film that will leave a long and lasting legacy for Valerie!
