The Victoria International Improv Festival gets underway Sept 30-Oct 3, 2010.
The shows, workshops and events take place at the Victoria Event Centre in historic downtown Victoria – specifically 1415 Broad Street.
Past festivals have seen great community participation and support.
However, so many BC-based arts organizations are currently experiencing pangs of ‘fund-hunger’ caused by the disappearance of government funding.
‘BC now only designates $4.50 per person towards arts funding, which is less than 20% of the national average, and the lowest in the country.’ Have a look at Stop BC Arts Cuts.
Also, I am a proud Vancouver native and am compelled to vouch for the big sister festival VIIF 200 happening Oct 5-9 – their IndieGoGo site inspired us to try the same approach.
NOW—-We’re really excited to bring the Capital City performers from as far away as New York and Toronto, and to showcase the talents whom sprouted up in our own backyard.
We’ve got a stellar line-up and are featuring Toronto’s Mike Fly and his Improv Monologue Project .
Victoria’s Missie Peters is bringing an original twist to the festival for us as well: live poetry.
Be sure to look at the Festival Website for our full line-up of performers.
So, what is your donation going to be used for?
The venue, artist fees, advertisements, tickets etc. We also want to pay international improv directors to teach our guests, local artists as well as the general public!
To me, the sponsorship coordinator for this year’s festival, the most important part of my ‘where the money goes’ spiel is:
When you donate, you are showing generous support for artists who should be able to make a living by providing the world with their services – expert entertainment and authentic inspiration.
Even more importantly, you are acknowledging local, national and international communities of energetic thinkers, witty storytellers, and on-the-fly performers – allowing them to spread joy and intrigue with improv.
Take a look at how you can help and feel free to email any questions you might have to sponsorship (at) viif (dot) ca
At the very least, I must give thanks to you for your time in reading this far. Thank You!
