Experience a simple user experience of the Volla OS with instant access to features and information without the need for apps. Just start writing and Volla knows what you want to do. We will introduce four new user experience concepts with our device:
Springboard
Start writing on Volla’s home screen and forget apps. Springboard recognizes what you want to do and suggests completion of the text and appropriate activities, such as sending a short message, initiating a call, opening a Web page, or saving a note.
Shortcuts
Create shortcuts for frequently used actions with a simple touch-drag-release gesture, making them more accessible.
Collections
The Volla OS automatically groups people whom you contact the most frequent and most recent to call them quickly, write them a message, or review the latest thread of conversation with them. Further groupings contain the latest grouped messages and threads as well as news media grouped by source. You can easily filter old groupings by keywords.
Quick Menu
No matter what you’re doing at any moment, you can access frequently used content and functions quickly via the Quick Menu. We will make best efforts to offer this feature system-wide.

Experience artificial intelligence that respects your privacy. We don’t collect any data, track statistics, or ask you to set up a Volla user account if you want to use the Volla Phone. You get to decide who you want to share which parts of your life.
Privacy Protection
For basic privacy protection the Volla Phone comes without Google Apps and Play Services or depending on a cloud service or user account. The Volla OS is based on the Android Open Source Project, which ensures compatibility with Android Apps and can be tested at any time by a community of software developers.
In addition, the Volla OS includes curated core apps that are also open source and respect your privacy, including a secure browser and an alternative App Store
Virtual Private Network
The Volla Phone comes with a pre-installed VPN of the leading provider Hide.me to protect your privacy on the Internet.
In addition, all supporters receive free premium access for one month and can then decide whether they want to continue with a premium or free access. Of course, all users are free to set up an alternative VPN provider of their choice.
Beyond high availability and state-of-the-art encryption, the most important advantage of Hide.me is that the provider does not create logs of your visited pages and activities on the Internet.

We are convinced that the future lies in an independent open source operating system. Therefore we want to give users not only the free choice to install such an operating system on their smartphone, but also the option to chose an pre-installed Ubuntu Touch operating system for the Volla Phone. For more convenience to change the operating system we use a recovery image with the popular TWRP app. We have already invested in a prototypical community port of Ubuntu Touch and Sailfish OS.

To ensure long-term simplicity and privacy protection, we see the importance of an independent, open source operating system.
Ubuntu Touch option for the Volla Phone
Especially Ubuntu Touch, the mobile version of the widely used Ubuntu Linux distribution is promising due to its advanced development. Therefore we offer the choice for a pre-installed Ubuntu Touch on the volla Phone. Android apps and the Volla user experience will not yet be supported by Ubuntu touch for the Volla Phone. Promoting a Sailfish OS Community Port
We have also already invested in a prototype of Sailfish OS for the Volla Phone and want to continue to support the development of a community port independently from this campaign. For licensing reasons we cannot offer a preinstalled Sailfish OS for the Volla Phone.

Risk & Challenges
We have prepared the project with prototypes. While the hardware has already reached production readiness through our experienced partner, the biggest development effort is the final version of the operating system including the user experience for the Volla Phone.
Risks of software development are unexpected errors and problems with the implementation of individual functions, which may only be available with an update after delivery of the Volla Phone. This includes the support of system wide features like the edge menu.
Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we cannot promise to offer another alternative operating system such as Ubuntu Touch, Nemo Mobile or Sailfish OS for daily use on the Volla phone. However, we would like to share our work for collaboration with the community.
There may also be a delay in shipping the reward due to a lack of drivers at German logistics companies. However, we do not observe any significant delays from our partners DHL and DHL Express in our daily business yet.
For the technical implementation of the software, we have a successful proof of concept for all innovations. However, there may be delays in the final implementation as part of the quality assurance process. In this case, we will deliver individual functions via a regular software update so as not to jeopardize delivery.

Reusability and recyclability
We are affiliated to a national and international recycling system for the reintroduction of raw materials into the material cycle. Our EAR number is DE95804196. Our robust box, in which the Volla Phone 22 is packed, can be used for other purposes in the household.

We do not use any plastic bags or filling material in the packaging, but sustainable and mainly reused raw materials.
Environmentally friendly factories
Our partner Gigaset for the production of the Volla Phone 22 has received an Ecovadis CSR Gold Rating.
