Watch out for Zombies! (org. title “Se upp för Zombies!”) is an independent, comedic, swedish zombie feature film. It’s set in a small town in Sweden where the quiet and safe everyday life is turned into a comedic struggle for survival. (The movie is shot in swedish but will be provided with english subtitles)
What’s the story?
The movie centers around the two main characters Daniel and Linnea, two depressed teenagers who doesn’t know what to do with their lives. However when a zombie apocalypse breaks out in the small swedish town, they escape from their homes and cross paths with each other. At first they don’t like each other and argues a lot, but they have to work together to survive. Along the way they eventually become friends, and they also find a new meaning with their lives; killing zombies.
A story about finding yourself and your purpose in life while you are young, despite living in a harsh and scary environment, even before the zombie apocalypse all the people around the main characters tells them what to do, without listening to them or hearing them out. Basically telling them to be a certain way, like them, like everyone else. Kinda what zombies do actually. You know, they bite you so you can also become a zombie and they follow the stream constantly. Themes like these is what makes the storytelling more fun and engaging to us as filmmakers, and it's going to shine through to the audience as well.

Who are we?
We are a very ambitious film crew from a small swedish town called Gävle. We have a huge passion for filmmaking and some of us already have experience with horror films and some also have experience with feature length films. We have given 100% to this project and continue to do so, because we love what we do and to be able to tell stories in a fun and engaging way.
The movie is written and directed by Emil Broo, he has made several short films throughout the years and this is first feature film. He studied Film and tv production at Dalarna University and is currently studying Professional Video Editor at Medieinstitutet in Stockholm. He is the editor and also one of the producers.

The other producer of this film is Eric Norberg. Eric is also one of the VFX artists of this film, together with Halvar Wallman and they have both won awards for their CGI short film Lunik 1.
Our goal is to make a comedic and exciting zombie film, with a good story and relatable characters. One of the major themes of the movie is finding your place in the world, which the main characters do, they find each other, in a zombie apocalypse of all places. But of course there’s also going to be a lot of blood and gore as well, it’s a zombie film afterall. So even if we focus quite a lot on the story we’re not forgetting about all the blood and gore, and especially the humor, which plays a big part as well in tone of the film.

Nova Amelie - SFX Make Up Artist
What is a zombie film without it’s zombies? Nova is the one that has helped us bring our zombies, to... life? She has along with several other make up artists given the zombies of this film their distinct, and dead look. All zombies are unique and different in their own ways, especially in this movie, and so she has experimented and played around with their looks quite a lot. Since it’s a comedy she has helped amplified the comedy of the film by giving the zombies their different and crazy looks.

Other SFX make up artists is Minna Salander, who works as a professional make up artist, Karin Engman who is also a filmmaker as well, known for the independent horror feature film Draug (2018) and Lina Nyberg who has been involved in several professional swedish productions such as Clark, Operation Ragnarök, and Vitt Skräp.
Music by Niklas Stagvall
The enormously talented Niklas Stagvall is composing the music for this film, taking the film to a whole other level, he can do the comedic style of the score just as well as the more action and horror oriented style of the score while also making it feel very cinematic that amplifies the experience of the film. He is currently doing the score for another swedish feature film, Småstadsliv Mellan Himmel och Körtburkar.

We also have fun cameos from Daniel Lehmusaari and Jonas Wolcher(voiceover), known for their low budget horror movies, famously reviewed on the swedish youtube channel MonteFjanton by Felix Recenserar.
Where will the money go?
The movie has already been shot. Most of the film's funding came from local film funds, scholarships and our own money. As of now we are in the post production stage. What’s left is the sound design, grading, composing the music and the visual effects, which includes gory and funny over top deaths for the zombies. All of which are going to cost to make. So by being a part and supporting this film by helping us reach our goal, we will be able to finance post production. These types of films are very rare in Sweden, and quite hard to finance, so here’s a chance for you to be a part of a more special type of swedish film, and a special type of zombie film as well. And you will of course also receive some perks by contributing to this project which you can check out here on this page, including some exclusive material that you can get access to!
All contributions are welcome! Big or small, you choose what’s best for you! If you can’t contribute, there are other ways to help us. You can share this page orthe movie trailers around on social media websites like Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Tik Tok etc. Spreading the word of this film helps a lot as well.
If we reach our goal at 30 000 SEK it will be easier for us to finish post production for this movie and to pay for some film festival tuitions.
If we reach our second goal at 60 000 SEK we will be able to fully finance and finish post production and get the movie out on time, in time for Halloween 2023 which is our goal. We will also be able to pay for the film festival tuitions and for advertisements as well.

Are there any risks?
The movie has already been shot and quite a lot of people are working on the movie now in post production. Without money it will take longer for us to finish the movie. But we are still confident that we will finish it either way and bring something new and extra to especially the swedish film industry. We have shown trailers and scenes on several film festivals, social media websites and film events and we’ve also had screenings to test audiences and we’ve received a huge positive response. We know we have a great and entertaining movie in our hands that audiences will enjoy, especially zombie and horror movie fans.

Distribution
Our goal is to send the film out to various film festivals all around the world, especially horror film festivals, which is where we know the movie is going to receive a broader audience and more recognition. But there is also a goal to get it on streaming services, and get it shown on swedish television. And also some screenings at cinemas and eventually DVD/Blu-ray releases.
We are in talks with distributors all around the world for this movie, so a wide release of this film is to be expected.

It’s been quite a long journey since Emil began writing the script in 2016 and after years of trying to fund the film which for a long time seemed impossible, the reality came true when we started shooting in 2020, despite the pandemic which we had to work around with and a small budget, we still managed to finish the shooting and with your help, we will be closer to finish the movie much sooner!
