What is Water Tanks Kenya

Water Tanks Kenya is a month long project being undertaken by The Three Musketeers Children's Fund in October of 2015 in which I will be travelling to Kenya in order to carry out the installation of water tanks and rain water harvesting for local communities.

  • 17 Million people in Kenya don't have access to safe water.
  • Over 10,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation in Kenya.

Project Outline (2 Phases)

1) Refurbishment of 20 concrete 55,000L tanks in the Mwingi area north of Nairobi.

Each of the tanks are attached to schools in the area and all have either developed leaks over time and also had the roof plumbing fall into disrepair and so are no longer collecting water from the roofs.

We have purchased and shipped Polyethylene liners to be fitted into these tanks http://www.heritagetanks.com.au/premium-residential-water-tanks/liners/ there are also protective pads to be installed on the base of the tanks prior to lining which will give 20 years of operational use from the tanks once re-commissioned.

Total installed capacity will be 20 x 55,000L all of which will be available for children at the school location in a region where walking up to 30 KM a day for 20-80L of water is not unusual. The job of collecting water is commonly assigned to the children and how can they be at school if they are humping water.

2) Installation of 3 complete round sectional steel tanks.

The Three Musketeers have purchased and shipped three complete round sectional steel tanks  http://www.heritagetanks.com.au/premium-residential-water-tanks/

Two will be installed at Medical Clinics run by Doctors Worldwide Kenya and the other will be installed attached to a church in a Masai Community on the edge of the Rift Valley. Each tank is 100,000L and the two installs at the clinics will provide clean water for the patients and the tanks will have a life span of a minimum of 20years.

The clinics are in Malindi (north of Mombasa) and one is out by Lake Victoria in the west of Kenya.

The tank to be installed in the Rift valley will provide a community with a water source for small scale irrigation of a plot of land next to the church where the water will be harvested from.

The church is the biggest building in the area and the roof area provides us with sufficient capacity to fill the tank. We have irrigation piping and pumps so that water can be delivered to an area approx. an acre to grow vegetables for the community.

How You Can Help

We have successfully funded the purchase of the tanks and have shipped them to Kenya.

We still however need a small amount more to cover the transport costs within Kenya of the tanks and associated installation equipment.

  • If we do not reach our funding goal all collected funds will still go towards the installation costs.
  • If we exceed our funding goal all collected funds will be used towards the cost of purchasing further tanks.

Some people can't contribute financially and we fully understand that but you can still help by:

  • Following The Three Musketeers on Facebook
  • Sharing this project on your social media accounts.

We will regularly update our social media accounts to keep people updated on the installation progress!

Thank you in advance to everyone who supports this project. You have no idea of the difference this will make to a single person, their family and community.

Who are 'The Three Musketeers Children's Fund'

The Three Musketeers Children's Fund has been set up by Brian and Maria O’Shea to honour the memory of their beloved children, Søren, Saoirse and Connor who died tragically on the 16th of July 2013 in a car crash in Denmark.

The fund’s aim is to support projects run by already established organizations with a view to improving health, education, safety and education for children in countries where no other alternatives are available to them. All organizations we work with and support have to be charitable by law.
