World Chase Tag - a brief history
World Chase Tag was formed by brothers Christian and Damien Devaux after a game of tag with Christian's son, Orlando, in their garden. Four years (and two events) later, their footage has received more than 120 million views online and been aired on TV channels around the world (including ESPN, Fox, BBC, Fuji TV, TMZ, CBS and many more). Their tournaments have been contested by some of the biggest names in Parkour (including Storror, Sebastien Foucan and Danny Ilabaca) and they have built an online following of more than 120,000 suscribers.
Basically, we went from this, to this.
Our third event is fast approaching, and we are at a crucial turning point. If we can make WCT3 as spectacular as we believe it could be, it will demonstrate to sponsors, networks and investors that our exciting new take on one of the oldest games has huge potential for growth. This will bring us one step closer to realising our long-term goal of creating a global, professional sport, with Chase Tag facilities around the world.
Our Indiegogo Campaign
The production costs for hosting WCT3 will be around $80,000. This will include venue hire, court transportation, insurance, crew wages, lighting, providing a live-feed and a host of other expenses. We will pay for this through sponsorship, and any shortfall will be covered by private backers. However, to create the best action, we want to invite the best athletes from around the world - with teams from Europe, America, Asia and Africa. And this is where we need your support.
Our Goal
We would like to raise $40,000 to help cover prize money and athlete transport and accommodation. 100% of the money raised (minus 35% costs for material, packaging post etc.) will go to the athletes and World Chase Tag will receive none of it. $10,000 will be allocated to prize money and the remaining $30,000 will help with athlete transport and accommodation.
There will be eight teams in total at WCT3 and each team has up to five athletes. The teams that travel further will be given a larger budget. We will finalise the team selection in mid August and it is at this point we will decide how much each team will receive (i.e. depending on where they have to travel from).
If we are able to surpass this $40,000 goal, the additional funds raised will go towards creating a superior live-feed, which would include the use of additional cameras, live action replays and so on.
The Perks
In return for your support, we will be offering a number of perks that are available exclusively through our Indiegogo campaign. These include a selection of T-shirts, the WCT winner’s medal and pieces of the actual WCT3 match court. Regardless of how much you are able to invest, you’ll still be able to watch the event for free on our Twitch live feed.
The Future
Our plan for 2019 is to host a four event world series. We will have three qualifying events, in Europe, Asia and America, and the winning teams from each event will go through to the World Final (location TBC). The success of WCT3 will play a big part in making this happen, so your support is very much appreciated!!
