We Are Kings is a road movie musical that is in the final stages of completion. Principal photography started on January 8, 2013 in El Paso, Illinois, continued in Atlanta and Baton Rouge, and is in its final stages of editing and sound cutting!
We're almost there! Please help us cross the finish line!
We Are Kings represents a miracle of sorts of low budget film-making. A sprawling movie musical road movie with REAL musicians playing the parts and music that was composed and recorded DURING the 20 day shooting schedule AND performed in the film.
If there was EVER a film NOT to be made on a low budget, or even a NO budget, which we were...this was it.
If there was EVER a film NOT to make with a SIX person crew (not including the director)...this was it.
It was just impossible.
But we did it.
Original music, crowd scenes, road shots, music performing, complicated sound problems and sub zero freezing weather...
Any Hollywood producer worth his chops would have said...you need $1.5 million minimum and even that's crazy.
Principal photography started with $5000 in the production account, 100,000 Southwest airlines miles (which enabled us to fly the actors IN), and a nifty Southwest Airlines/Chase credit card (which has now melted into a nasty, smouldering plastic fondue). We must pay homage to the proud American banking sector...Every once in a while they unwittingly help the small guy...
A very classy group of private investors stepped up to the plate...not plutocrats, just ordinary working folk that dribbled money in as best they could...and kept us going, and we haven't stopped since January 8. But we've got to KEEP going now...until the end!
The towns of El Paso, Illinois and nearby Eureka stepped up too. Local restaurants and garages, a bowling alley, hotels and bars offered locations for free. The students of Eureka High School participated as extras in a lunchtime concert shot!
Now we're close. The music talent we have is flat out exceptional. Every one of them. Sammy Blue...Rita Graham...Bianca Ryan...Boogie Long...and Pryce Watkins...

We need this $15,000 to complete the final edit and sound edit and mix of the movie (we have a more or less fine cut of the movie already with a few tweeks and recently shot patches to cut in). The big job is the sound edit and the final mix and mastering.
This gets us across the finish line!
