SALLY’S STORY

I have truly had a blessed life!  My two sons have brought me great joy and pride, and I have been privileged to hold a career at the Children’s Treatment Centre which provided total fulfillment and satisfaction working with disabled children and their families.

During my tenure at CTC, so many positive and wonderful relationships were forged with parents, children and professional colleagues, that I count my 33 year CTC career among my greatest of blessings!

In July 2010, my journey with ovarian cancer began.  Though frightening and life threatening, the nearly 4 year experience including 2 surgeries and 4 rounds of chemotherapy, has not been without many truly glorious times.

My loving relationships with family and friends have been strengthened, and my appreciation of the small yet so very significant and important aspects of life has been enhanced.

I realized my dream of traveling to Africa and witnessing all that God and nature have wrought on that spectacular continent, and I gained a steadfast faithful best friend in my new dog, Gracie.

Now, however, I am facing my greatest challenge as the traditional chemotherapy drugs are no longer working and my cancer has significantly advanced.  All hopes now rest on Avastin, a biological therapy that has been found to suppress tumour growth.

Avastin is not financially supported by our Federal or Provincial Health plans, nor by private insurance.  The cost of one month of treatment is $2,630.00 with a yearly total cost to me of $31,560.00

I am so very thankful for this wonderful world and for the life I have been privileged to lead.  Like everyone though, I crave as much time as possible with those I love.

Your help to allow me the chance of more precious time would be so gratefully appreciated and I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you,

Sally Spence
