Our Story

Actor Steven Joseph. He creeped you out in It's Not Your Grandma & Princess! You'll cry with him in Suicide Notes! He made you laugh in I Saw Mommy...! You saw him wear a hat in The Great American Moonrock Caper! Now having completed production of his first short film Spring Break Roundelay and the shooting of his first production job, Clayton Grisso’s Rehearsal/Residue, he’s ready to unleash his next savage vision of Americana, Weakened at Burny’s!

Weakened at Burny's tells the story of a guy whose strange pop culture obsessions lead to madness and tragedy. Packed with laughs and tinged with a certain poignancy, this medium-length movie will change the face of filmmaking in some alternate universe, possibly. But in this realm, let us say it's a cross between Lewis Carroll and Franz Kafka by way of Kids in the Hall with a pinch of Schizopolis and a dash of The Monkees in Head. In other words, it's a comedy, folks. And we think it's pretty darn funny!

…and our actors think so too! Everyone who’s seen the script has enjoyed it immensely. Superlatives like “Exactly The Kind of Project I Want To Do”, “So Much Fun”, and “Nobody’s Doing Stuff Like This” have been hurled our way regarding the script. We’ve lined up a great cast boasting some of Houston’s finest and most exciting performers, including Tom Long, Renee Edd, Matthew Carter, Norma Jean Lipert, Jacob Byrd, Courtney Rose, Paxton Gilmore, Chelsea Aldrich, Wes Linnenbank, Joe Grisaffi,  John Dunn, Elizabeth Redpath, Jeremy Norton, Roxy Hixon, and Patrick D. Green amongst others.

What We Need & What You Get

Basically we need money. Filthy Lucre. Mean Green. Cool Coinage.  Cold Hard Cash.

In the past year we’ve produced two shorts directly out of our own pockets, and we’ve learned the pitfalls & shortcomings of that most independent of financing methods. As this is a much more ambitious project than our initial pair, we want to do things differently this time around.

We've been able to line up some locations and materials in kind, and pocket money has covered some other necessities. We’ve also been able to complete an initial phase of shooting and are now about to embark on staging the main body of the film. However, all of this has been done by the very seat of our very pants.  And so this is where you kind folks come in.

Your donations will go towards:

(A). Compensating our talented actors and technicians.

(B). Helping cover post-production fees.

Look to the right side of the screen for a list of unique perks awaiting you should you donate. In addition to the listed items, our top donor (whomever donates the most by the end of the drive) will get a one of a kind "Weakened At Burney's" painting by our Art Director, noted local artist Stacey A. Carr!

Please give generously if you can! Our expenses thus far are very low, and with just the right amount of cash we could solve many logistical problems right away. Otherwise we must yet again pay for everything from our own pockets. As aforementioned, we want to be able to pay our principal cast and crew something more than a pittance. Let's break that $1,000 mark if we can! Keep independent cinema alive!
