Stardom: Dream or Nightmare?
TALENT. TRAGEDY. Cobain, Hendrix, Joplin, Michael Jackson. On and on, their stories are the same as countless young artists. The unresolved collision of art, money, fear and success is now at epidemic levels. 96% of artists live with unrecognized A.D.D, O.C.D, aspergers or depression. Seeking fame's illusion, they journey down an unknown path completely lost…no map, no directions. Used as disposable talent in the media controlled trend window, our young artists today are truly confused, scared and alone.
Why is “the dream” so plagued with collapse? Because young artists’ lives revolve around chasing a dream that they know absolutely nothing about. I myself am a former major label recording artist, composer and manager. Being a victim of over $***,000 in unpaid royalties, I am also a recovered alcoholic, and have spent many years struggling with depression and suicide. I am a father of three boys…all talented musicians who seek a musical career. This is why I can no longer sit idly by and watch the young artists – the kids, including my own - wander down the same path of mistakes that we all made.
I am in the early shooting stages of WELCOME TO THE DREAM; a documentary film that literally sits them down and explicitly reveals the reality of stardom…not to shatter their dreams, but to wake them up! My cast includes some of the most respected recording artists and experts in the business who have partnered with me in a mission to provide young artists with the ‘coaching’ we never had. From garage to Grammy, they traveled the path and survived.
WE MUST ACT NOW. Why? Because right now - TODAY - we are witnessing an historical consolidation of the major-label recording industry. There is at least one musician in over 55 percent of US households. If the young artist is to survive, they must understand how they themselves are wired, the psychology of their fans, and how the industry has capitalized from our vulnerability. This is a unique and unprecedented opportunity to empower the artist by conquering the obstacles that continues to destroy them and their craft.
We have only ONE chance…IT IS NOW. Our disturbing roster of suicide proves: THEY CAN NOT SURVIVE A LIFE THEY SEEK, BUT DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
Campaign Phase 1: Interview Filming
This is the first campaign phase of production that needs your support. Your contribution will directly enable our award-winning cinematographers to film up to five cast interviews, determined by tour schedules and geography. The more funds raised, the more artists on our “teaching staff”. The overall funding for this project is being raised through the contributions of private foundations, philanthropists, celebrities, and especially those who have compassion for youth, education and identify with the artist. In appreciation for your generosity and support, we will gladly return some of your contribution amount in the form of a gift* (listed on right). But, if you’re like me, what drives you is much greater benefit - the reward that comes from knowing your contribution is changing history by changing lives.
You should know that a minimum of 6.5% of your contribution won’t even make it to the film; with up to 11.9% IF WE DO NOT MEET THE CAMPAIGN GOAL. This is what is extracted for PayPal and “crowdsourcing” fees. Reaching this campaign goal is a CRUCIAL factor in supporting the overall project budget. The funds for this project will directly dictate it’s effectiveness and degree of it’s impact. Music and media licensing, production staff, travel, post-production, R&D, administrative, accounting and insurance are all components that must be financed. It isn’t cheap to do it right, and doing it right is the ONLY WAY. FUNDRAISING FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION. I have a history of making things work on a shoestring budget, but any way you look at it, a YouTube budget = a YouTube product.
This project is sponsored by the International Documentary Association, staffed by an award winning team of producers and has worldwide digital and retail DVD distribution partnership with the MVD Entertainment Group. The film itself is the ignition point of a long-term outreach…artists helping artists. There has never been a project of this significance before, but it can only happen with your help. Let us not face more of the same consequences if we continue to ignore the problem.
