WELLOAK: a brand new British werewolf film crossing
JOHN LANDIS'S AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
with JOHN
CARPENTER'S THE THING...sounds good? We think so!
"Please Drive Carefully!"
The “werewolf” film
is arguably the most maligned of all horror genre, but why is this? There is a
real cemented lore when it comes to werewolves and conventions are hard to
break; humans transforming into creatures at the sight of a full moon or the turning
of night, victims waiting for the creature to fully transform before they
decide to run, the rule of silver bullets and wolf-bane being our friends....tough
clichés to play with.
Then there's the commitment of shooting such
ambitious projects; it is costly creating the transformation of a human into a
monstrous creature, despite the increasing presence of CGI in the industry. These points have been taken head on with WELLOAK's preproduction team with a year ahead in research and script planning that began in 2014 that now brings us to August 2015 with a completed script, production design underway and auditions for main cast completed.
Our film tells the story of
Ellie, a newly qualified nurse who has been talked into a hiking trip into the
isolated mountain side by her extreme sport nut boyfriend Mike. Along with
their friends they pack up their van and head deep into the unknown...
As darkness falls the group begin
to get lost, climbing higher into the isolated mountain side, and suddenly come
across an isolated Inn at the outskirts of a small town called WELLOAK. They
stay the night and after much drinking and befriending the strange town folk
they head for bed. The next morning they wake to discover that Mike is missing
and the villagers have little explanation of his whereabouts. Forced to move on,
they must survive the wilderness, and also a following pack...
WELLOAK is a new and unique British based werewolf film. We plan to shoot in the Derbyshire Dales and
utilize its incredible natural beauty to create a creepy, other-worldly atmosphere as a
backdrop for the film. It’s been a long time since we have seen a great
werewolf film – it’s now our time to transform this fundraiser into a great
visual spectacle to fall in-line with other great films of this genre.
WELLOAK will be the new British werewolf film of the 2000s.
Director
(Jonathan Lee Millward) has been the driving force of this project for the last
year, working non-stop on prepping the script, overseeing production design and
character concepts, arranging auditions for the teaser trailer and location
scouting. Our vision at Outland Productions is to produce high caliber film
projects using minimal funds, always maintaining an ambitious and creative
outlook. Our last film 'OUTLAND' was an extended short that included two fully
designed goblins characters, large scale miniatures and high quality CGI
effects, needless to say it was a very ambitious project and with our next film (WELLOAK) we aim to be just as ambitious.
OUTLAND poster (2013).Our budget is set and apprised for essential practical puppet effects (namely the
building of a complete stand-alone and articulated wolf creature, including the various transformation stages) we are firm believers in the art and the continuing prosperity of practical effects and we are hoping to create something fresh and holy unique in terms of the transformation sequence and lift cycle of our werewolves, with this we need your help!
