New to Manhattan and still not jaded, Charly strives to make it as an actress, while juggling a plethora of degrading day jobs and navigating all the weird characters that come with them. Each episode, she tries holding down a different, soul crushing gig, while running from audition to audition, hoping to get noticed and take her career to the next level. Though Charly tries to stay positive, with every rejection and strange new side hustle, it’s impossible not to ask: What am I doing here?
How We Began
As many early career artists know, to support your passion you have to get one or many "survival jobs." I was no exception. I took the the first job that would have me, handing out coupons for a large restaurant chain in Times Square in the dead of winter. That didn't last long. But it was the catalyst for a slew of other absurd side gigs.
Folks in the industry always say, "write the work you want." I have always aspired to be on a comedy series like "The Office" or "Parks & Recreation." I began to think about how my side jobs would be portrayed in the same comedic layout. The material came pouring out.
I needed someone with expertise in writing to help harness and guide my experiences and ideas. I asked Alex Riad to jump on board as my writing partner and co-creator, and he graciously agreed. He has a way of capturing the voice of our generation with truth and humor. I knew that together we could make this story one worth hearing.
Our hope is that the people who see this series are brought belly laughs from the situations young artists face daily in New York City. All the while, inspiring young people to see that these sometimes daunting life experiences are equally important in forming who you become as an artist. We hope to continue to bring you content for a long time because we believe that every side job is a story worth hearing.
What We Need:
We are looking to raise the final $12,000 of our $30,000 goal. We are very lucky to have some amazing, supportive investors on our side so we could hire a top notch creative team and crew (Producer- Danny Hoffman, Director- Jessica O'Hara-Baker, DP- Jarrod Hurwitz.) The rest of the money being raised will go to props, location, paying our actors, insurance, craft services, equipment rental, and post-production.
Viewers Are Leaving TV for the web
By 2015, according to the National Association of Broadcasters, 3.8 million households cancelled their cable subscriptions in favor of buying a-la-carte streaming services. In 2017, cable lost another 1.7 million. Also, only one third of Millennials even pay for TV and they’re the biggest generation. People didn’t stop watching TV, but they switched to the web to get it. We are hoping to have our series join the many success stories sprung from original online content.
