About This Project
Amateur archaeologist Brie had a troubled relationship with her father. He was constantly out of the house, off on some adventure, and when he was home, he plagued her life with alcoholism. At the same time, he had a fierce love for her, and was a wonderful mentor, as any father should be.
Fast forward several years later. Brie has graduated from The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World and is now a working archaeologist. Brie did her best to work hard and build herself up on the best lessons her father taught her, but she is finding it increasingly hard to do. Because of this, she sets out in search of a powerful relic that may rid her of the painful, conflicting, memories.
She has a plan, but as she arrives at the abandoned castle where the lost Locket of Thomas Creely rests, it is sidelined by a mysterious figure from her past. As she engages with the figure, and searches for the locket, we learn more about her past and her relationship with her father.
Director's Statement
The past is something that's very important to me. Sometimes I’ll stop in the middle of the street when I see someone from my past walk by. I wonder if I’d be walking with them if things went differently. Or I’ll wake up from a dream where I replayed scenarios over and over again. Each one different from the last. The past is so fascinating because it is constantly there, but we are unable to do anything about it. It's almost as if it is playing a game with us.
We're often told that we need to move on from difficult circumstances. Forget the past. Stay in the present. But that is really difficult to achieve. I wanted to tell a story that pays tribute to the work one has to do to heal from a traumatic past but also shows that we can learn from our experiences. In challenging times there is still much to be grateful for. This is an idea I fully believe in and one that is at the core of this film.
This story is emotionally driven, thematically powerful, and thought-provoking, all of which are elements of the films I enjoy most. This may be an intense experience for the cast and crew, but I have experience with multi-location, and longer, shoots. I will do everything in my power to make sure this film succeeds.
About The Director
Aidan Middlebrook is a writer, director, script supervisor, and actor born and raised on the East Coast. From an early age, he was engrossed in the visual arts, and editing, making funny home movies and gaming montages with his friends. He turned his eyes towards a more serious way to explore his interests, taking a film storytelling class in his freshman year of high school. Since then, his passion for filmmaking has only continued to grow.
Inspired by the likes of Matt Reeves and Steven Spielberg, Aidan looks to use filmmaking as a means of exploring the deeper aspects of humanity, such as grief, love, purpose, and identity, among others. He also enjoys bending filmmaking genres and is always searching for new ways to use the visual medium. Aidan is a total people person and hopes to continue engaging and collaborating with his fellow artists.
