Who are we?
We (Grace Hannoy and Simone Stadler) met in the summer of 2014 at The Atlantic Theater Company's Summer Intensive in New York City. We forged a fast friendship, and over the next few years often found ourselves commiserating over the lack of opportunity for women both on and off screen. When Grace wrote her first feature film we decided to join forces as producers and our friendship grew into a solid business partnership. Together, we are committed to creating opportunities for ourselves, each other, and many other women in the film industry.
What is the story of the film?
When We Grow Up is a feature film about a close-knit, albeit sometimes contentious, family brought together by an unconventional emergency that forces them to confront each other's secrets, flaws, and temperamental inner children.
The death of the beloved family dog brings the Barnes siblings back to their parents' suburban home for the weekend to console their distraught mother. Louise, the youngest sibling, is struggling with the decision to step out of the clear path that has been drawn for her in order to find out what she really wants to do with her life, despite the fear that her mother will disapprove. Maris, the middle child, has made the secret decision to embark on single parenthood using a sperm donor, and now must find the right way and time to tell her family. Elijah, the eldest child, and his wife Irena are deep in the process of filing for the adoption of their first child, which is complicated by the fact that Elijah, as the only black member of his family, has some concerns about how best to start an interracial family of his own. Their parents, Brian and Holly, are having trouble keeping their marriage together, which is made more difficult by Holly's inability to cope with the loss of her dog.
How are we making the film?
We are proudly committed to producing this project with an all female team.
We cannot tell you how many film sets we've been on where the entire crew was composed of men. The thing is, this isn't because there are no women who can do the job. In fact, we know so many talented, hardworking, badass women who work in film. So, we are going to fill our set with women, with the hope that this will inspire others to do the same. We want to work in an industry that doesn't disappear when you photoshop the men out of the photo. You can help us to make this possible!
By making a contribution (of any size) you will be directly responsible for creating more opportunities for women in film.
What We Need & What You Get
We need $35,000 total to get this movie made. We have already raised almost $15,000 and we are asking you to help us raise the remaining $20,000 needed to get us there. This money will be going towards:
- Pay for our actors
- Pay for our on set crew members
- Pay for our post-production crew members
- Equipment
- Locations/Housing/Transportation
- Meals
- Legal Fees & Insurance
When We Grow Up is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of When We Grow Up must be made payable to Fractured Atlas only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
As you can see, we will also be offering some fun incentives for you like social media shout outs, a signed copy of the script, and even a chance to get your name or picture into the film!
Of course, we are hopeful that we will reach our goal with this campaign, but if for some reason we do not, rest assured that we will continue our fundraising efforts, and your contribution will be used for the express purpose of making this film.
Other Ways You Can Help
We understand that sometimes all you're able to give is $5 or $10. Please don't avoid making a donation if this is the case. We cannot impress upon you enough the impact of a donation of any size.
In addition to your donation, if you believe in supporting women in film:
- Take 5 minutes to think about 3 people in your life (who might be able to make a small donation) who care about empowering women and making a difference, and pass this page on to them.
- Re-post our campaign on social media.
- Use any of the tools provided by Indiegogo on this page to share.
Every little bit counts, and we appreciate any support you can give us. THANK YOU!
