WHY ME?
Our film is a Chapman University Senior Thesis production written and directed by filmmaker Vick Ravindran.
OUR STORY
'Why Me' follows Shannon MacGregor, the epitome of an Orange County housewife. Shannon is a member of the local Parent Teacher Association and is an active member of her conservative, polished-to-perfection community. When her teenage son, Aaron, reveals to her that he is gay, a wrench is thrown into Shannon's ideal life. Cornered by the expectations of the ruthless women of the PTA, the values of her town and her own concern for her reputation, Shannon goes to extreme lengths to change her son before questioning if she is the one truly in need of a change.
IMPACT
'Why Me' is an amazing opportunity to not only showcase years of film education and training for several students but additionally it is an equally strong opportunity for exposure of the LGBT cause. Several films have addressed LGBT issues but rarely from the eyes of a parent and more importantly a parent who does not initially understand. Through your support of the film, we would be increasing awareness of a relevant social issue through the medium we are most passionate about.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Fortunately, we have been allocated 4,000 dollars from the University which has served as a generous starting point, however, from the end of December to the beginning of February, we are hoping to raise an additional 5,000 dollars to create the best production possible.
Donations will be going to areas such as production design, costuming and make-up to create Shannon's picture-perfect, luxury world. Additionally, donations will be put towards the camera and lighting teams in order to ensure we are capturing the film professionally.
