Short Summary
Every month new breweries are popping up all over New England, but yet not one brewery is servicing the people of Quincy directly. It is unfathomable that a city so rich in history and bursting with potential has been left untapped in the boom of craft breweries. Our dream is to change that and bring a nanobrewery into the heart of Quincy and provide the people of Quincy a place to call their own. A taproom intended to serve the community, the people who work here, and the people who visit this historic city.
Why support Widowmaker Brewing?
We are passionate about making great beer. From day one of Widowmaker's inception our goal has been clear and simple, make great beer and share it with those who wish to share it with us.
The craft beer world has exploded, everyone wants to try the newest brewery or style of beer they can get in their hands. People want to drink fresh beer from local brewers made by local ingredients. This is an experience that the people of Quincy have not had the opportunity to experience.
You don't have to be paying a great deal of attention to understand the craft beer market is exploding with possiblities. However for those not paying attention to the development of Quincy it may come as a surprise that Quincy is on a major upswing. A younger community is flooding Quincy Center and the need for local entertainment, food, and drink is paramount. Of course we want our potential customers to come in with their growlers and fill up on our latest offerings but how great does it sound to have a place where you can get a couple locally crafted beers before hitting Fat Cat for their world class Mac & Cheese, Alba for perfectly cooked steak, or the great new addition to Quincy Center The Townshend. Quincy has such potential, it can be so much more than a place to catch the Red Line and jump into the city... help us become part of the rich fabric of Quincy!
- Our goal of $20,000 will go a long way into helping us secure the needed funds it takes to open a start up nano brewery. We do not take any person willing to assist us for granted, we are a hard working group with a focused vision. Your willingness to support Widowmaker Brewing is viewed as challenge we are prepared to meet and exceed.
- When we initially thought about what we should offer as donation gifts we obviously thought of tangible gifts like shirts, bottle openers, and pint glasses... really cool stuff to show your support. We also wanted to add bigger picture things that will not only memorialize your support but really make you feel part of the Widowmaker family. Something like naming a beer that we put on tap for purchase is very important to us. We want our beers to represent us and our community in its taste but also its name. Our Pale Ale is a perfect example, we call it Greenbush. For the locals reading this the Greenbush Commuter Rail may be how you commute into the city or for some their weekday alarm clock. For the founders of Widowmaker Brewing the Greenbush line runs pretty extreamly close to where we all live throughout the South Shore so it was natural name for a beer we see as our flagship Pale Ale. We are really excited about all the gifts and we hope you are too!
Risks & Challenges
Like all ventures there are risks, and if you're one of our wives/fiances you have been happy to point them all out to us! When opening a brewery there are many hurdles, red tape, and a lot of waiting. A lot of times issues are out of your hands and you will be at the mercy other people and organizations. There are building issues, permit issues, licensing issues... and all that comes before the simple question: Is your beer good? It is!
With all that said we have meet with people from the city of Quincy and other influential people in the community and they have been very supportive. We are developing a strong network of people who agree Quincy needs a brewery. The city wants businesses like Widowmaker Brewing to be part of their growth.
There will be hard times along the way and when we fulfill our goal of opening a brewery we will surely realize the difficult issues we faced were the tip of the iceberg in navigating our way to success... and we can't wait for the challenge!
