Our Story

We are an enthusiastic group of guys doing an MA TV Production course at University College Falmouth who are currently filming a documentary which will explore marine mammals being rescued, rehabilitated and released by local marine organizations. We will also explore the lives of the volunteers who support marine wildlife in Cornwall.

Cornwall (England) is surrounded by beautiful oceans filled with marine life. Locals and tourists live, breath and work these oceans and our objective is to discover who the volunteers are that give their spare time to make a difference to the marine mammals around our coastline.

With contributors from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, Cornwall Wildlife Trust Marine Strandings Network, The Cornwall Seal Group and The National Seal Sanctuary we aim to discover what volunteering entails and how it affects their lives. You will also witness the unfortunate story of Dot, a one-eyed seal pup rescued at 5 weeks old, and follow her battle for survival.

Access to the right contributors, locations and stories is complex because mammal strandings happen anywhere, anytime and for various reasons. We have a strong combination of all these factors, which will bring us the greatest opportunities.

Where do stranded mammals go when rescued? How are they rescued? How are they rehabilitated? Who are the people who help them? Why do they help them? All these questions are answered in our film, ‘Stranded’.

The Impact

The documentary will tell the stories of people who give their time to help save mammals in need. It will explore the importance of the role of a volunteer and create awareness about marine mammal rescues and strandings. If this production is successful we aim to explore another element of volunteering somewhere in the UK.

What We Need & What You Get

The goal of the project is $850 (£500). The first $162 (£100) will go towards production cost and everything beyond this will be donated equally between the organisations who are contributing: CWT Marine Strandings Network, The National Seal Sanctuary, The Cornwall Seal Group and British Divers Marine Life Rescue.

Other Ways You Can Help

Here you can see a taster video of what you will see in the final film. As well we'll be soon using Social Networks to spread the word and try to make this project works with the help of everyone!

Of course you can help us by donating to STRANDED. But it helps us equally much if you tell your friends and family, your colleagues and facebook/twitter friends about this campaign! Spread the word, shout it loud! We need your participation!
