OUR PROJECT:

My name is Marcus Rader. I have over 14 years of experience in the apparel industry. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, and a graduate degree in Apparel Manufacturing and Production Management from FIDM in Los Angeles. Education gave me a vantage point over my life where I was able to sift through my talents, and understand my true passion!

I see depth and emotional value in everything that I design. I am exponentially motivated to create great things!  I design products that challenge my skills and my knowledge in order to educate myself while expanding my capabilities. My goal with each of my business ventures is to establish a brand that becomes engraved in American History.

And who am I to make history?  I am one of many young, Inner City males who has been surrounded by illegal lifestyles, all while witnessing friends fall victim to seemingly insurmountable barriers… I am determined to prove to the people in my community that hard work CAN yield a positive outcome!  I want to achieve greatness as an example of what education and discipline can bring!

This campaign supports a specific project that has been part of my vision in exploring and revitalizing historical clothing.  My project celebrates the life and work of Mr. Will Steger, a pioneer in the education and awareness of Global Warming, and its effects on our environment. This project caters to the audience of a fanatic collecting community who immortalizes the gear worn on Will Steger’s 1989-1990 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition. This expedition was a 7 month, 3,471 mile Dog Sled Traverse across the antarctic, curated in order to prove the effects of Global Warming at a time when the idea of Global Warming was seen more as a myth, rather than fact.

A majority of the sub-culture that collects the gear from this expedition are unfamiliar with the historical details of the garments that they collect. For the past four years, I have diligently investigated every corner of this project in order to deliver not only a high-quality garment, but deliver a highly important message!

This particular project will achieve 4 (four) major goals:

1.  Reproduce immortalized prototypes of the 1989-90 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition that were never released to the public, commonly referred to as the "UAP Pullover"!

2.  Bring substance and awareness to a particular consumer population who have created a sub-culture based around the "UAP Pullover"!

3.  Highlight Will Steger’s life dedication to the awareness of Global Warming, its effect on our environment, and how we can preserve our environment for future generations!

4.  Generate a generous communal donation to the Will Steger Foundation (WSF) enabling him to expand his efforts!

USE OF FUNDS:

I am fully aware that today’s consumer market requires a designer to multi-task, taking on roles outside of “Design”.  Although my passion is designing, my graduate degree was focused on Global Business and Production Management. With this educational background and my relevant career experience, I am able to lead and manage all facets of the apparel industry. I can Art Direct the product ideation, facilitate the development and pre-production duties, source contractors, and oversee quality control, logistics and distribution.

For the successful completion of this project, I am seeking a communally funded $80,000 USD. This amount will cover the required startup costs, as well as cover the production of the garments, environmentally-sound packaging, educational materials, and promotional website.

For the 1989-90 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition, Will Steger assembled a team of 6 (six) explorers, each with their own individualized "UAP Pullover" Jacket. I will manufacture a very limited reproduction run of each of the 6 (six) jackets. The initial release, Will Steger's "UAP Pullover", will be available by Winter of 2014 - the 25th Anniversary of Will Steger's Expedition!! Each purchase will be accompanied by informational material about our project, history of the expedition, and information on The Will Steger Foundation (WSF). The following 5 jackets will highlight the other 5 explorer's and THEIR contributions to the 1989-90 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition and environmental awareness as a whole.

The end result of this project will generate a $20,000 donation toward The Will Steger Foundation (WSF)  *EACH YEAR*,  for the next consecutive 6 (six) years!!

A TOTAL GROUP FUNDED DONATION OF

$120,000!!!

to the Will Steger Foundation (WSF)

“I would like to create change in the way consumers invest their dollars. My long term vision is for my customers to be motivated to revert to domestically manufactured goods, revisit brand loyalty of the 1950’s, celebrate smiths and masters of trades and bring an emotional value to the consumer experience.”
