Winifred Rose is a luxury party and festival wear brand from Bristol, UK.
We require additional funding to launch our brand new sustainable collection which aims to bring you beautiful luxury clothing without compromising the environment and the well-being of manufacturers.
Our mission is to provide stunning, wearable and stand out pieces that are environmentally and socially conscious.
Our brand new sustainable line will show that using sustainable and recycled fabrics does not have to compromise quality and appearance. We are using both brand new technology and age old fabric techniques to bring you environmentally friendly pieces to fall in love with. We want our designs to encourage new and existing customers to realise eco-friendly can be beautiful and cool.
Winifred Rose was started in 2016 and we are proud to say that we are half way through our fourth year of selling beautiful luxury clothing.
The impact that the fashion industry has on the environment has become more and more apparent over these four years, and we want to be part of the solution not the problem.
This is where you come in, we are looking for funding to produce our first ever sustainable collection.
We are looking to raise £10,000.
£5000 will be used to purchase fabric, the two fabrics we are using are recycled Econyl Lycra and sustainable silk. The garments will be produced in Europe at a small manufacturers who pay and treat their workers fairly, this will cost £4200. £800 will go towards the marketing and collection launch. If we do not reach our target of £10,000 the collection will still be made and released with lower stock availability.
This money will not only enable us to create this first sustainable collection, it will mean we can create eco-friendly clothing year after year, this is only the beginning, with your help we want to spread our message that eco is fun and bright and beautiful.
All of our sustainable collection is available for pre-order, see the perks to order each garment.
We have chosen to use two fabrics throughout our sustainable collection, recycled Econyl Lycra and Mulberry silk.
Lulu is pictured here wearing the Burning Man Silk Kimono and the Alana Recycled Lycra Swimming Costume both in Cheri Bomb print. We chose to use silk as it is one of the most sustainable fabrics on the market, and it feels super soft and luxurious against the skin, and looks beautiful. Here are some facts about silk production and its’s eco credentials:
- Silk is made from turning the fibres of the silk worm cocoon into thread.
- The production of silk is one of the oldest known fabric manufacturing processes, producing very little carbon.
- The Mulberry trees that the silk worms feed on actually suck in carbon from the air and produce oxygen.
- The Mulberry tree requires little water and no pesticides or fertilisers to grow.
- Silk is biodegradable and compostable.
- The silk worm is eaten as a food source by the locals after their cocoons are used to produce the silk, insects are a high protein food source and produce very little methane which is harmful to the atmosphere.
Here Lulu is wearing the Mila catsuit in Fern Gully print.
All our Lycra pieces are made of Econyl recycled Lycra, it’s made from reclaimed marine waste like old fishing nets and other plastic waste, they have a partnership with charity Healthy Seas who dredge the sea of this waste. The plastic is then melted down and spun into thread which is made into the fabric.
One of the best things about this process is that this Nylon thread has the potential to be recycled indefinitely, meaning old clothing can be returned and made back into virgin cloth to make new garments.
Using recycled Lycra is a no-brainer for us, it looks and feels like regular Lycra but by wearing it you are removing waste from the seas that needlessly damages marine life and the eco-system.
This is perhaps our favourite piece of the collection, the Audrey jumpsuit. Made with 100% Mulberry silk this piece is so easy to wear and feels so luxurious, either tie the belt at the front to clinch in the waist or wear loose and relaxed.
It is available in either Queen Bee as pictured or Cheri Bomb. These two prints were designed by Emotional Waterfall, an amazing artist who is local to Bristol where we design the collection. As a brand we try to work with local talent as much as possible, we believe there is strength in community and collaboration. You can follow Emotional Waterfall on Instagram @emotionalwaterfallart .
The Mila recycled catsuit in Cheri Bomb
Here we have Lulu in the Gigi Flares and Betsy top, in the Fern Gully print, another fabulous collaboration with a Bristol designer, Marta Zubieta, this print was inspired by the natural world, a fantasy version of the Amazon rainforest with fairies and creepy crawlies, made in recycled Lycra. You can follow Marta on Instagram as well @onirical_zubieta .
The printing technique we have chosen to use is sublimation print, this is one of the most environmentally friendly printing processes, it uses heat to transfer the print to the fabric, so no water or chemicals are needed.
The recycled Betsy bikini in Queen Bee, also available in Cheri Bomb and Fern Gully and sublimation printed.
Here Lulu is wearing the Alana Swimming Costume which is fully reversible giving you both Emotional Waterfall prints in one! Sublimation printed and recycled.
And lastly we have the Florence Silk Catsuit in Fern Gully, a fitted strappy style with layered flare detail at leg, 100% silk and available in Fern Gully, Cheri Bomb and Queen Bee.
Winifred Rose was started in Bristol, UK, in 2016 by Rosie Toms, a British fashion designer.
Rosie studied fashion design in London before moving to Stockholm to design for high street clothing brand H&M in 2012. After a few years getting to know the fashion industry in Sweden she moved back to London to work for indie brand Religion Clothing. These years of experience gave her invaluable skills and knowledge and in 2016 she decided to start her own label concentrating instead on slow fashion- well made, originally designed and socially conscious clothing, and Winifred Rose was born.
Creating limited collections of beautifully designed clothing, at Winifred Rose we originally focused on the festival fashion market, hand making sequin garments. Now we still make hand crafted sequin pieces that are made to treasure for years to come, but ultimately we want to pull away from sequins and focus on sustainable garments. This sustainable collection is the first of many to come and we hope to be a fully sustainable clothing brand in the near future.
If you want further information about the production process, the reasons we chose these particular fabrics, how we plan to overcome potential risks or anything else please see our FAQ's.
