Overview
Over the course of three weeks, 'WIP it good' will explore a number of sub-themes, including ecology, digital technologies, cultural identity, affective narration and experimental music, placing emphasis on process, development and evolution over ‘completed’ artworks. Through providing the conditions for artists to conceive new works during the programme, supporting constructive discourse around works in development, WIP it good! supports the generation of new and unforeseen forms of knowledge.

Curated by 15 postgraduate curating students from Goldsmiths, University of London, WIP it good! is an experimental programme of art events and interventions at Enclave Lab on the theme of work in progress. Over the course of three weeks, this concept will be explored through a number of sub-themes, including ecology, digital technologies, cultural identity and affect, placing emphasis on process, development and evolution over ‘completed’ artworks.

Through providing the conditions for artists to conceive new works during the programme, supporting constructive discourse around works in development and inviting visitors to participate in creative processes, WIP it good! supports the generation of new and unforeseen forms of knowledge.

Reflecting the mood of uncertainty that characterises our present moment, the programme does not seek to prescribe strict outcomes, instead exploring how we might discover paths forward through processes of collaboration, dialogue, and multi-disciplinary exchange.

The space

Enclave Lab is an experimental space located in Deptford, open to Goldsmiths students to experiment innovative ideas around contemporary art practices. It is a precious source for emerging artists and curators to develop projects and collaborations in a professional but casual environment.

Programme

The programme will develop throughout a series of heterogeneous events, all related to the main theme fo work in progress. Each week something really different will happen, from live performances to practical workshops and from open discussions to off-site activities around Deptford.

1. It Got Brighter, Then Dimmer Next to the Wound - March 15th to 17th. The project acts as a case study on the ways human communities shape the ecosystems surrounding them. We hope to bring awareness to the importance of ‘safe spaces’ for non-humans in the environment of the city, and the strategies employed by life to reproduce within concrete architectures.

2.The Art of Code – March 21st 18:00-21:00. A series of artist presentations highlighting the creative processes of artists working with code. Current students of the Goldsmiths Computational Arts MA/MFA will present artworks currently in development, followed by audience Q&A and discussion. This event will consider what specific methodologies, approaches and ways of thinking open up when artists engage in creative computation.

3. Desktop as Studio - March 22th. Workshop based on Antonio Ferreira's exhibition that focuses on the new relationships artists create with their work spaces in the digital age.

3. Home is wherever I'm with you - March 23th to 24th. a weekend exhibition that brings together video artist Dorothy Cheung, visual anthropologist Ching Wong, and art and learning practitioners Francesca Centioni Dene, Lynn Obath, Maria Samótracia, Sarah Ward and Siuman Wu, focusing on questions of home, physical space, displacement, memory, individuality, and collectivity.

3. There is a time for reciting poems and a time for fists - March 28th to 29th. Aesthetics of emotion and the relationship of affective art with the audience. This will be explored through participatory events and video art to investigate with different mediums the affective nature of language in all its meanings.

4. The Reading Room- March 30th to 31th. The Reading Room invites you to come and explore different forms of sharing knowledge, ideologies, and stories through a collection of zines from the Women’s Library Zine Archive, Daikon Zines, Lahar, and Gay Plants. Considering the importance of zines in enabling conversations around underrepresented communities, this selection of zines centers around queer and feminist histories. Zines will also be available for purchase for the duration of The Reading Room.

What we need

Your support is essential for this project to happen since its access will be free. It will help us deliver the creative, qualitative, and ambitious project we imagine. In order to do so, we need a minimum of 1090£, which we have budgeted as follows:

Production costs: £585

This will cover the basic production costs for the installation of artworks and compensate for performances and workshops material costs.

Refreshments: £230

Depending on the event, refreshments will be served, to make a more homely and relaxed atmosphere.

Printing costs: £170

This will cover the production of a catalogue as well as posters and press releases.

Indiegogo fee:

This fee includes: the Indiegogo 5% fee on all flexible target campaigns, the Stripe 3% fee, and the £25 fixed fee for transferring the money outside of the US.
