Voter disenfranchisement and intimidation. Limited access to polling stations. Unreliable or flat-out corrupt tallying systems. The ever-increasing influence of money in politics. These real-life horcruxes are hurting democracies across the world.
The situation is dire, but we can overcome! We’ve proven time and again that fans have the power to make substantial impact on important issues and challenges facing our world. We believe that we can generate game-changing participation in the US election with a healthy dose of fan activist magic!

Our campaign will engage HPA members and chapters in three primary objectives:
-
VOTER REGISTRATION: We will work with our core membership and chapters to register hundreds of new voters across the United States.
-
VOTER COMMITMENT: We will connect with potential voters in every corner of fandom, from facebook groups to wizard rock shows, and drive them toward making a pledge to vote in this year’s election.
-
GET OUT THE VOTE!: We will support at least 300 local get-out-the-vote efforts across the United States and coordinate the delivery of thousands of voter howlers via telephone and owl post.

We Turn Fans Into Heroes
Since 2005, the HPA has inspired hundreds of thousands of people to channel their passion for stories into impactful work for social change. Our campaigns have moved the needle on everything from literacy and education to human rights and ethical cocoa sourcing. Additionally, our leadership development programs continue to equip young adults with the essential skills and confidence they need to excel as leaders in their communities. As 85% of our core members are women and nearly half identify as LGBTQIA+, our programs are helping to shatter barriers that hold back certain people from advancing in their chosen careers, academic institutions, and anywhere else that traditional gender and orientation barriers exist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are you legit?
A: Yes! Read all about our financial transparency and check out our gold rating on Guidestar here. We are SO legit.
Q: Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes - mostly! After donating, you should receive an email from FirstGiving confirming the tax-deductible status of your contribution. The tax-deductible portion of your contribution depends on the value of the perks you've received.
Example: You pay $40 for a t-shirt. Your entire $40 contribution goes to the HPA. The t-shirt has a fair market value of $22. When you buy your t-shirt, you know its value is less than your payment. To figure the tax-deductible amount of your contribution, subtract the value of the perk you receive ($22) from your total payment ($40). You can deduct $18 as a charitable contribution to the HPA in this example.
Q: Does international shipping cost extra?
A: Yes. International shipping rates continue to rise. We wish they'd stop! The additional shipping charge will be added to the cost of your perk when you select your location.
Q. How does the signed Deathly Hallows contest work?
A. It’s super easy! Every donation to this campaign received before October 24 at midnight PST entitles you to one contest entry form, which will be sent to you via email upon completion of the fundraiser. Your task will be to create a brand new Fantastic Beast, complete with name, physical description, special powers, origin, and anything else that’s relevant about your magical creature. An impartial jury of HPA employees will review each submission and select a winner, based on the criteria of creativity, uniqueness, and humor. The winner will be notified and a Deluxe Edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows signed by JK Rowling will be sent to them in the mail. Contributors may donate multiple times to receive additional entry forms. Each form will be subject to its own separate, impartial review process. If you require further clarification, please feel free to email donate@thehpalliance.org with your questions.
Q: I donated for one of the shirt perks. When do I give you my shirt size?
A: We will email you a survey within a few days of your donation. At that time, you’ll be asked to provide sizing details for you shirt. Please add info@thehpalliance.org to your address book to ensure that you receive this important email.
Q: What sizes are available for t-shirts?
A: Sizes vary depending on the product. The Not Perfectly Normal t-shirt and the When in Doubt Pumpkin Spice t-shirt come in Adult Unisex XS-2XL. The Granger Things t-shirt comes in Adult Unisex XS-2XL and Ladies S-XL.
Q: I’m outside of the US and having trouble getting IndieGoGo to accept my donation. Help?
A: IndieGoGo only accepts international credit cards, not bank or debit cards. If you do not have a credit card and still wish to donate to our campaign and receive perks, email donate@thehpalliance.org to make sure the perk you want is still available, and donate instead directly through thehpalliance.org/donate.
Q: I have a question.
A: That’s a statement. Questions should be directed to donate@thehpalliance.org.
