My first response when anyone asks me if I need help, is always “No”. I like to know how to do everything myself – as unrealistic as that is. If I don’t know how to do something I NEED to be able to find the answer.
Last summer I decided to take on a challenge and paint a room without any help. To make sure I was doing everything properly, I searched online for informative, high quality videos on how to paint. I quickly realized that most of the videos posted were hosted by men, and that got my wheels turning. There are tons of women out there that can do things that most people would ask a guy for help with.
From this epiphany, Woman’s Work was born. We are going to showcase women who have specific skill sets. Through video tutorials, demonstrations and tips they will be able to share their knowledge with the viewers.
We will feature female auto technicians, carpenters, electricians, financial gurus and more. Not only is it important for their knowledge to be shared, but I am so excited for young girls to see women in these roles.
And we're premiering our very first video, right here! Check out the first edition of our Car Maintenance 101 series: "All About Auto Fluids." Watch it below:
What We Need & What You Get
Asking for $15,000 is a huge responsibility and I am UP for the challenge. You might be wondering, where will your money be going? This handy infographic will explain just that.
See the rewards on the side? They are awesome. AND they are named after amazing women; some names you may recognize and others you may not. Visit our social media channels to learn about them all!
We are so thankful for your donations and have thought up some really cool ways to give you a piece of Woman’s Work in for your everyday life. We have Woman’s Work pens, key chains and a customized screensaver. My FAVOURITE is The Woman’s Work Workbook: A Guide to Learning Something New – it will knock your socks off.
I am certain that there are enough people who share the vision of Woman’s Work to help us meet our target. If we happen to not reach our goal, all the funds we do raise will still be used towards creating the web series, and all the extra goodies around it (website, blog, articles, and in person workshops).
The Impact
Do you know that feeling of being able to do something people didn’t expect you to know how to do? It’s excitement and empowerment all rolled up into one.
My vision for Woman’s Work is to bring that feeling to people every day, by providing the platform where their thirst for knowledge can be nurtured. By learning from expert women in a variety of fields, we will be able to envision ourselves completing a task that we might have thought was impossible.
We’ll never need to be worried about a flat tire, or what to do when we blow a fuse. With the knowledge Woman’s Work will provide, you will be empowered to overcome these hurdles.
Risks & Challenges
So, you may be wondering how am I going to do this. Understandable. Remember before how I said I never really ask for help? Well I’ve gotten over that.
By asking for help, I have already created an amazing network of strong, successful women who are excited to contribute to this project. We actually have a few videos already filmed and will be sharing them over the next 30 days.
The main hurdle with a project like this is getting viewership. Thankfully I have an amazing social media expert on board who is committed to spreading the word about Woman’s Work.
By following a rigorous social media campaign, we have already grown our following by 100% over one month!
