ABOUT THE DIVAS
The D.C. DIVAS was founded in 2000, making it the third-longest running franchise in women’s football history after the Minnesota Vixen and the New York Sharks. The 2015 roster is comprised of women from hugely diverse backgrounds. While the average NFL player makes $1.9 million per year, these women play for nothing—but the love of the game.

ABOUT THE WFA
The Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) is the most competitive women’s football league in the United States. Over 40 of the nation’s strongest women’s football teams belong to the WFA—including the D.C. DIVAS—making it the biggest women’s football league in the world today.

Based in Exeter, California, the WFA is co-owned by the wife-and-husband team of Lisa and Jeff King. Lisa, a Forensic Psychologist by day, is a wide receiver for the Central Cal War Angels; Jeff, a teacher and football coach, is a former semi-pro football player who was inducted into the Minor League Football News Hall of Fame.
Lisa was a kicker on Jeff’s semi-pro team when she learned about women playing football. They started the WFA with the goal of making the sport more competitive by lowering the league fees so that younger athletes could afford to play.

PROJECT HISTORY
Last August, WFA league owner Lisa King invited Robert to attend the 2014 Championship game in Chicago where the Boston Militia faced off against the San Diego Surge. He watched from the sidelines and immediately fell in love with this phenomenal game and the stories of the amazing players. What he saw in these women was their incredible spirit; each was living life to the fullest expression of who she was, regardless of whatever arbitrary expectations society has in store for them.
It was an inspiring afternoon.

Robert returned to Washington and got involved with his local team, the
D.C. DIVAS, and realized that the most effective way to tell the story of women’s football was through the DIVAS’ experience of the game, on and off the field.
He started filming the preseason and is now primed to hit the road and capture the DIVAS’ unique camaraderie, sisterhood, and athleticism over the course of the entire 2015 season.
The filmmakers’ goal is to travel across America with the D.C. DIVAS, filming each game with four cameras to elevate the captured footage to NFL standards, an artistic benchmark these players fully deserve.
They are passionate about this project and believe that—with your help—they can make a unique documentary about Americas most popular sport.
WOMEN WITH BALLS will be an inspiring film about self-belief, self-acceptance, community, courage, spirit, and ultimately—win, lose or tie—TRIUMPH of the human spirit.
Because sometimes in life, you’ve just gotta grow a pair.
