Short Summary
Hi, my name is Sandro Bovo, I'm from Italy and I'm trying to achieve the new Downhill Speed Record for Inline Skates which is at this 119 Km /h (74 Miles per hours). I hope to be able to be the 1st man to break the barrier of 120 km/h just with the help of gravity and to survive to tell .
In the 10 years of activity (1996-2006) participated in 6 editions of the World championship, 9 editions of the World Cup, and five Italian championships always ranking in the top 20. My best result obtained in 2002 when I placed 4th in Cape Town (South Africa) at the Red Bull DHX.
I've been in the Italian Inline Downhill team for ten years, and after taking a break because of an injury I decided to return to compete in a final attempt to record.
I would like to end my career in this sport with a bang (hopefully only figuratively) and give it all in this attempt to the World Record.
Unfortunately to make this even official it requires a lot of expenses and that is why I need your help.
What We Need & What You Get
I need 20.000€ to:
- 5500€ for GWR judges
- 2000€ for travels to the record's spot (two tickets for me and my physiotherapist)
- 2000€ for the technical support for the training
- 2000€ for Timekeeping
- 3000€ for the real time web streaming
- 1500€ for the helmet
- 2000€ per permissions and documents
- 1000€ for the hospitality during the event
- 1000€ doctors and ambulance during the event
As you can see it’s quite expensive to find the right location the technical support and the technology involved in this event are quite expensive. Not only that but it require a quite hefty fee to make it official with the Guinness World Record. I am trying to save some money by making my own helmet, but still to maintain some standards of safety and performance require a quite large amount of funding.
I am also making these resources available to other athletes from all over the world that will try to participate to the record attempt with me.
To be noted that all the proceeds to and donations that exceed the planned budget will be donated to charity to a cancer research facility (Instituto Oncologico Veneto di Padova – Venetian Institute for Oncology of Padua) to honor the memory of my mother that was a victim of Pancreatic Cancer few years ago.
The Impact
My achievements are the results of the team effort. I am able to do this thanks to the hard work of many people, and all the time shared together away from home, and the persons that are close to our hearts. This record attempt will be the record of everyone that suffered and worked with me and I hope to share all the emotions with you. I am one of you and I hope to achieve this with you. I am the one on the skates, but you will be the force behind that will push me to the limits of my abilities.
Risks & Challenges
What’s the risk associated with this adventure? The main one is that I will not be able to break the current record (I mean beside the fact that I could crash and get seriously hurt ). Hopefully we will raise enough money to give our little contribution to the fight against cancer and this makes it a win-win situation for everybody.
